It looks like even more changes could be coming for another WWE Superstar after it was hinted they may be reverting to their NXT gimmick on SmackDown.
In the latter days of Vince McMahon’s reign in WWE, several stars graduating from NXT to the main roster had their characters, names, or both completely changed. Pete Dunne became the rabid fighting pitbull, Butch, Tommaso Ciampa lost his first name – only to later regain it – and LA Knight was overhauled from wrestler to the manager known as Max Dupri, the head of Maximum Male Models.
The Male Models whose momentum was maximised under Max Dupri’s management were the former Mansoor and Mace whose names were tweaked in the group. Maxxine Dupri later joined the stable as Max’s sister but the group have found little in the way of in-ring success.
Following the team’s latest loss to Hit Row and The Street Profits on SmackDown Dupri attempted to rally his troops, telling them to keep their chins up and using the line “You have to go through the day to get to the night, yeah.”
That “yeah” was a ubiquitous part of Dupri’s character of LA Knight in NXT and before that as Eli Drake in both IMPACT Wrestling and the NWA. This could be a sign that Dupri could be reverting to that popular character either in whole or in part sooner rather than later.
