Now that Roman Reigns has dominated and stood at the top of WWE for over two years, the question of who might dethrone him has grown ever bigger. During his run as World Champion Reigns has already defeated the likes of Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Edge, meaning that there aren’t many realistic challengers remaining.
One name that a number of fans have mentioned is that of Sheamus. The Irish star has seen something of a career resurgence in the second half of 2022 with his battles against Gunther garnering praise across the board. The pair famously have World Championship history with Sheamus cashing-in his Money In The Bank contract to defeat Reigns for the WWE Title at Survivor Series 2015.
Booker T Dismisses Talk Of Sheamus Vs. Roman Reigns Clash
However, while a potential clash between the pair might be popular among a number of fans, Booker T doesn’t see the appeal. Speaking on the Reality of Wrestling podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer said that although the bout would produce good in-ring action, he questioned how many people would actually want to see it.
“I do [like the idea of Sheamus vs Roman Reigns] but you gotta wonder how much interest would have been there for that match, you know, with Roman being, you know, kind of like on an island of his own right now, not that Sheamus couldn’t have stepped in there and that couldn’t have been a great match,”
“But I’m talking about interest from, you know, the public eye, the universe, you know, that they wanna see that match. That’s why I questioned it. Because Sheamus step in there and get the job done, yeah I think so, but I don’t know. Me personally, I wouldn’t book those two together right now,”
Roman Reigns was most recently in action at Survivor Series where he guided The Bloodline to victory over Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Butch and Ridge Holland. The end of the match came with Sami Zayn proving his loyalty to Reigns, beating down Kevin Owens. It has since been reported that both KO and Zayn could face Reigns in early 2023.
