WWE Shares CM Punk Try-Out Match Against Legendary Tag Team [Video]

CM Punk has looked back on his WWE try-out match that took place more than 20 years ago.

In a sentence that sounds baffling to wrestling fans, The Road Warriors competed in a dark match on Velocity before SmackDown went on the air in 2003. The tag team’s opponents on that night were none other than the future Best in the World and his partner Doug Delicious.

Noting that it was one of the most requested matches in WWE Vault history, Punk introduced the contest on the company’s YouTube channel and recalled being put on a “banned list” in a previous match in Philadelphia after a grapevine hammerlock DDT used by Punk was deemed to be “too dangerous.”

Continuing, Punk added that The Legion Of Doom’s original opponents were “too weird” to be put in the match so Sgt. Slaughter approached the Chicago native and asked if he wanted to wrestle The Road Warriors. Of course, Punk jumped at the opportunity. Admitting it was the first time that he had ever seen the match, Punk introduced the match that took place prior to his official signing in 2005.

The quick match came to an end when Doug Delicious was on the receiving end of the Doomsday Device.

CM Punk Possibly Interested In Creative Pitch

Fast forward to 2024 and Punk has become one of the most recognisable stars in the wrestling industry for both positive and negative reasons. Suffering a major injury in his return match at the Royal Rumble, the former World Champion has been sidelined for 6 months but will make his return to action at SummerSlam as he faces off against Drew McIntyre. With many fans fantasy booking matches for CM Punk’s return run, the WWE star is open to one pitch in particular.

In a new interview, CM Punk picked his top 5 wrestlers of all time.
