WWE has announced that NXT Battleground will take place on May 28th, 2023 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The event was revealed by Shawn Michaels at a media scrum ahead of Stand & Deliver which takes place on April 1st.
Following the announcement, the company issued a press release that noted this will be the first PLE the developmental brand has held in the state and only the second outside of Florida since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
“This marks the first time that an NXT premium live event has taken place in Massachusetts and the second time since February 2020 that a stand-alone NXT premium live event has taken place outside of the state of Florida.
“NXT Vengeance Day emanated from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte this past February.”
“‘We look forward to returning NXT to the road and delivering an incredible night of action to the passionate fans of Massachusetts and those watching at home,’ said WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels.
Battleground will take place the day after a new King and Queen of the Ring are crowned in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The timing is also turning heads because it is happening on the same day as All Elite Wrestling’s biggest show of the year, Double or Nothing.
NXT Battleground taking place on same day as AEW Double Or Nothing
Not only has Battleground been scheduled for the same day as Double Or Nothing, but according to Jon Alba, the company is planning to hold it at a similar time to the AEW event, meaning they are likely to go head-to-head.
“A WWE PR rep indicates to me the NXT Battleground PLE show set for May 28 will be an evening show. If that’s the case, it may go head-to-head with AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV.”

NXT and All Elite Wrestling have a history of going up against one another going back to the ‘Wednesday Night War’ which saw Dynamite airing at the same time as the developmental brand on that night throughout 2020.
After being on the losing end of the ratings for most of the war, NXT moved to Tuesday nights in April 2021.
