WWE Reveals Major Brock Lesnar Updates Amid Uncertainty On John Cena Feud

Brock Lesnar returns at WWE SummerSlam 2025

WWE is preparing for the last stretch of John Cena’s Farewell Tour as the veteran superstar faces retirement. Cena arguably has a few big matches left, but the expected Brock Lesnar showdown has been the subject of growing speculation over the past week. And now, there are multiple updates that will put a lot of the guesswork to rest.

Triple H and WWE’s creative team are planning to use the final Cena vs. Lesnar match to combat one of AEW’s biggest annual events, according to a controversial narrative that emerged this week. Tony Khan has the seventh annual All Out PPV booked for Saturday, September 20, from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Sources claimed this week that WWE has an unnamed main roster PLE scheduled for the same day, likely at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

All Out is rumored to feature the big in-ring reunion of hometown stars Christian Cage and Adam Copeland (fka Edge). WWE would need a strong lineup to counter this, and word was that 2-3 major matches were being discussed for the September PLE, including Cena vs. Lesnar. It is believed that the premium live event next month could be Bad Blood V, which opens the door for a big Hell in a Cell Match.

WWE has still not announced a premium live event for September as of this writing. However, new announcements on Lesnar seems to solidify the rumors of a big September PLE featuring Big Match John and the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Brock Lesnar Announced For WWE Events

Brock Lesnar made a shocking return at SummerSlam 2025, decimating John Cena after the superstar dropped the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. This was Lesnar’s first appearance on television programming since The Biggest Party of the Summer in 2023.

The Beast Incarnate has now been confirmed for his big SmackDown return. WWE announced today that Lesnar was booked for the blue brand on September 12 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Lesnar was also added to the September 19 show at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.

SmackDown on September 19 looks to be the go-home show for the still-unannounced September PLE rumored for the following day. This location is fitting as Toledo is just a few hours from Indianapolis.
