Big WWE comeback expected following SummerSlam.
Rey Mysterio got injured on the April 18 episode of SmackDown during a tag team match with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix against Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers. This caused him to miss WrestleMania 41 against El Grande Americano, leading to Fenix replacing him.
Not long after, he shared that he tore his groin during the tag team match and was also dealing with a busted eardrum. Despite the injury, he appeared during the AAA and WWE ‘s joint event to welcome fans to Worlds Collide. Unfortunately, it seems like an in-ring return will continue being on hold.
During the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan shared that Rey Mysterio would likely be back around August. However, since SummerSlam will be on the 2nd and 3rd, the company might not want to rush the Hall of Famer, resulting in him possibly coming back after the premium live event instead.
Konnan also shared that Rey Mysterio will play in more key roles for future WWE and AAA events, praising Dominik Mysterio’s participation during Worlds Collide as well.
Rey Mysterio Says Dominik Mysterio Inspires Him To Keep Wrestling Despite WWE Rivalry
It’s been well known that Rey and Dominik aren’t on the best of terms on-screen. Despite this, the Hall of Famer shared that his son plays a huge role in why he is still wrestling in WWE today.
In Pro Wrestling & MMA Interviews with Me (Jimmy V3), Rey Mysterio shared that despite his injuries, his passion and love for the sport inspire him to keep going. He also noted gained a newfound inspiration when Dom started wrestling too.
“You know, I still love doing what I do. I definitely believe that I picked up my second wind when my son started to wrestle, and he broke in for the first time, although he’s been around since he was seven years old when we had the storyline with Eddie Guerrero and the custody of Dominik. But overall, the passion that I have for the sport,”
