WWE has tried to make SummerSlam a star-studded affair but their attempt to snare celebrity guests for The Biggest Party Of The Summer has reportedly hit the skids.
The litany of celebrities that have appeared at WWE events over the years is almost endless. So much so, that celebrities have been given their own wing in the WWE Hall Of Fame with names like Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, and Pete Rose all being inducted.
With the company able to once again pack fans into a stadium at SummerSlam for the first time in over eighteen months, it was rumoured that WWE was pulling out all the stops to put together a show bigger than WrestleMania. For WrestleMania 37 in Raymond James Stadium, attendance was still capped at 25,000 fans each night.
Now Fightful Select has reported that WWE’s plans to have some of the hottest stars show up to their summer spectacular have fallen down. The report states that the company had been hopeful for several months that Cardi B would be a part of the event with her song ‘Up’ even being chosen as the theme song for the event.
However, in June 2021, the rap star announced she was pregnant with her second child, putting paid to any possible SummerSlam appearance.
PWInsider also reported that the company tried to get WWE Hall Of Famer Mike Tyson to be a part of the show as well. Mike Johnson’s report stated that the company wanted Tyson to provide a voiceover to the opening video package for the show that is said to be built around the presumed main event of Roman Reigns taking on John Cena. That deal also came to nothing and there is no word on who will be voicing that video package.
Tyson’s last involvement in wrestling came in All Elite Wrestling in April 2021. Tyson had made several appearances for the company but on this occasion was acting as the special enforcer for the match between Chris Jericho and Dax Harwood. When The Pinnacle and Inner Circle got involved, ‘Iron’ Mike ended up dropping Cash Wheeler with a vicious right hand.
Fightful also reported that Megan Thee Stallion was also in line for a SummerSlam appearance that also involved WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair. The two women were recently photographed together but the report states that at one point WWE thought Megan Thee Stallion was a “done deal” for the show but an appearance won’t be happening.
