WWE Reportedly Reached Out To Lana To Pitch Royal Rumble Return

With the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match playing host to some former stars of the company, it has been reported that Lana had been sought after for the bout.

Thirteen women that comprised the 30 woman field at the Royal Rumble were former WWE Superstars or WWE Hall Of Famers as the likes of Summer Rae and The Bella Twins rolled back the years in the ring.

Former WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool spent the second-longest amount of time in the match before being eliminated by current IMPACT Knockouts Champion and old rival Mickie James.

However, not everyone WWE contacted about returning for the match took the company up on their offer. The former IIconics, Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay are said to have turned down the approach and now PWInsider has reported that Lana had also been approached by the company but did not end up making an appearance.

The report states that some within WWE had thought as late as the week of the Rumble that the Ravishing Russian could appear but as the week wore on, Lana’s name was no longer mentioned.

Lana began her WWE career in 2013 by the side of her now-husband Rusev – now known as Miro in AEW. Together the pair graduated to the main roster of WWE with Rusev capturing several titles with Lana by his side. When Rusev was released from the company in April 2020, Lana continued her run, competing mainly in tag team bouts with Natalya and latterly Naomi.

On May 31st, 2021, Lana competed in her last match in the company on Raw where she and Naomi lost to Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke. Just two days after that bout, she was released by WWE along with five other stars.
