According to a report by Sportskeeda, World Wrestling Entertainment are considering loading up the initial outing for their foray into the Indian market, WWE Superstar Spectacle.
On January 9, 2021, WWE officially announced the promised beginning to their Indian brand which we were told would record over the evening of January 22 and air on January 26 on both the WWE Network and Sony India.
The show will see an 8-Man Tournament held to crown the inaugural WWE Indian Champion before the brand evolves into NXT India, just like NXT UK began life as WWE United Kingdom Championship Special before the company garnered enough attention in order to turn it into a fifth brand behind Raw, SmackDown, NXT and 205 Live.
While it was heavily rumoured that the company would include the majority of their already signed Indian talent including Jinder Mahal, The Bollywood Boyz, Indus Sher and Mae Young Classic competitor Kavita Devi, Sportskeeda now reports that the company are looking to other, non-Indian stars to attract a larger audience.
Names mentioned in the report were AJ Styles, Charlotte Flair, The New Day, Bayley and Rey Mysterio. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre was also part of this group but he will now be required to isolate until January 25 after a positive diagnosis of COVID-19.
Currently, it is unknown what these names would do at the tapings when the whole idea is to a launch a new brand on its own merits and stars. However, this was also a tactic employed in the creation of NXT UK.
The company used Neville and Tommy End (Aleister Black) as an attraction during the second night of the premier tournament to crown the first WWE United Kingdom Champion in 2017 and then stars of NXT to pit against the Brits through both nights of the second annual tournament in 2018.
