WWE Reportedly Wants This Wrestling Company To Be The Second Biggest

Why Pre-Show Matches Rarely Take Place On WWE PLEs

WWE is aiming for a former rival wrestling company to be the industry’s second-largest player.

WWE remains the biggest and most popular wrestling promotion out there. The company has been around for several decades and has showcased some of the biggest names in the sport that also became mainstream stars like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena, among others.

Although World Wrestling Entertainment remains at the top of the food chain, there have been other promotions rising up the ranks lately, mainly All Elite Wrestling. However, WWE wants to ensure that if there’s a company going to be on their tail, it must be Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

TNA was once WWE’s biggest and closest rival. However, that all took a back seat earlier this year when it was announced that both companies had entered a multi-year partnership allowing stars from both promotions to appear in each other’s shows. As per reports, the Stamford-based promotion may have other agendas for why they want their former rival to succeed in the industry.

WWE Reportedly Wants TNA To Be The Second Best, As They Can Be Controlled

In an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that WWE wants TNA to become the “other promotion” because Total Nonstop Action Wrestling can be controlled.

The site also added that the Stamford-based promotion probably just wanted Tony Khan to be out of the business, showing that they were uncomfortable with the competition that Khan and his venture brought to the table.

[WWE] really want TNA to become the other promotion because they can control TNA. This is a major full-court press. They just want [Tony Khan] out of the box and they know if the numbers stay good that he’s gonna get a renewal at a much bigger number, just like they did. He’s already very profitable, the number will make him incredibly profitable and they’ll never get away from him or anything like that. So they feel that they need to make sure this is the last contract.” [H/T: Cultaholic]
