Fans were recently treated to a glimpse of the past on the throwback edition of SmackDown. Although it wasn’t physically present, WWE presented a CGI version of the ‘SmackDown fist’ which is a fondly remembered part of the blue brand’s set from years gone by.
The timing of this report of new sets for both shows could coincide with the WWE’s return to live touring events in front of fans. WWE has spent the majority of the pandemic emanating from the WWE ThunderDome. The company has used the ThunderDome set up in various locations throughout Florida including the Amway Center, Tropicana Field, and then most recently the Yuengling Center in Tampa.
WWE did welcome fans back for the first time in over a year for both nights of WrestleMania 37 in the Raymond James Stadium. With a vastly reduced capacity due to social distancing measures, the company announced a sell-out for both Saturday and Sunday welcoming over 25,000 fans each night for the spectacular event.
Current plans within the company are to welcome fans back once again for SummerSlam in August with reports suggesting that event could then kick-start a return to the road for the company as the world begins to emerge once more from the pandemic.
AEW has already confirmed their intention to return to the road, with shows now advertised for July.
