Former WWE referee Bill Alfonso has recalled the terrifying events surrounding the stabbing of WWE Hall Of Famer ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper built a legendary career as a hated villain in various companies before becoming an icon in his time in the World Wrestling Federation. Piper was a key part of both the Rock ‘N’ Wrestling connection and the birth of WrestleMania as he headlined the first Show Of Shows in a tag team bout that also featured Hulk Hogan.
Before then Piper faced off with the beloved Ricky Steamboat in a series of matches where Piper enraged fans by getting himself disqualified in order to avoid a more decisive loss.
Speaking to WSI’s James Romero legendary referee and former ECW whistleblower Bill Alfonso has recalled the events surrounding a fan becoming so irate with Roddy Piper that they stabbed the star:
“[The fan] pulled out a little pocket knife and stabbed Roddy Piper right in the gut. That was pretty f*cking heavy. It didn’t cause a lot of damage. Thank God it was a little pocket knife, a little case-knife about that big [points fingers to the camera], so that was quite eye-opening.”
Thankfully piper made a full recovery and went on to have a legendary career in wrestling where he captured the Intercontinental Championship at the 1992 Royal Rumble.
