Brock Lesnar might have a fearsome reputation both inside and outside of the ring, but that doesn’t mean that he’s difficult to work with when it comes to doing business. In the past, Lesnar’s no-nonsense style backstage has drawn criticism, but one former WWE referee was full of praise for The Beast.
Jack Doan began working with WWE in 1991 and quickly became a full-time referee. Doan remained with the company all of the way until 2013, sharing the ring with the great and good of professional wrestling along the way.
Brock Lesnar Was Easy To Work With
During an appearance on Sportskeeda’s Unskripted podcast, the veteran official discussed some of the famous names he has worked alongside. Doan noted that in the 1990’s Shawn Michaels was a tough star to referee, calling him a “jerk” when battling his well known issues with addiction.
“The most difficult I would say, Shawn Michaels in two forms,” Doan said. “One, when he was going through his days, which he’s very open about, when he was a jerk and going through times with his addiction. He was very tough to work with in the ring, but the other part about it, he was such a professional that he wanted perfection. So, he would scream at you in the match if he didn’t feel you were in the right place or where you needed to be.”
Doan added that AEW star Chris Jericho also had a similar temperament and determination to have the best match on the card any given night.
“[Chris] Jericho was the same way,” Doan said. “Jericho was just, you know, they want the best matches. They work hard, work their butt off. They want to be the top match of the night, and the referee can ruin that match.”
When naming Superstars at the other end of the spectrum, Doan noted that it’s often those that fans may not think of that made life easy, including Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker.
“The best probably to work of all, Undertaker,” Doan said. “Some of the top guys you would think would be the hardest who were actually the best. Brock [Lesnar], Taker, Kurt Angle, all those guys were so easy to work with in the ring.”
Brock Lesnar was most recently in action at WWE Crown Jewel 2022 where he defeated Bobby Lashley. It is unclear when the star will be retuning to the ring.
