The main event of WrestleMania 39 Saturday saw Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens defeat the Usos to become Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
The match was the result of months of dramatic and emotional storytelling involving all four participants. After weeks of trying to make amends for his actions at Survivor Series WarGames, Zayn extended to olive branch to Kevin Owens multiple times to no avail.
But after things took a turn for the worse when Jey Uso chose family over friendship leaving Zayn once again beaten and betrayed, Owens came to the rescue of his former friend to reunite and take down the Bloodline together.
The story was one of redemption between Zayn and Owens but was also a tale of heartbreak with Zayn and Jey Uso. Their tumultuous relationship was one of the best stories ever told in wrestling and despite the many twists and turns along the way, it was always about Sami and Jey finally coming to blows.
This emotionally charged match was one of the major highlights of the WrestleMania weekend. When the duo claimed victory and the titles over their adversaries there was not a dry eye in the house.
The passionate reaction felt throughout SoFi Stadium was immense and also transferred backstage. One of WWE’s biggest stars revealed they openly wept at Zayn and Owen’s win.
WWE Superstar Becky Lynch Posted An Emotional Message Of Support For Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens
Taking to social media the uber-popular former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch celebrated their win with a heartfelt post. Lynch reminisced about their time on the independent scene, which saw them become not only friends but family along the way.
17 years ago, I met Kevin and Sami on a poorly organized wrestling tour in Italy. After a week I knew we would be friends for life, but they’re like brothers to me now.
I’m not too proud to admit I cried like a baby watching them win the main event of WrestleMania last Saturday. They deserve all the success in the world.
