The WWE RAW match’s awkward ending could have been due to Dominik Mysterio forgetting his spot.
AJ Styles and JD McDonagh faced off last night, and the closing moments featured an awkward sequence, which left many wondering about what was happening.
On the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the match. Alvarez spoke about the chaos at the end, where JD and AJ were in a top rope spot, which had a weird pause. Meltzer tries to justify that AJ was caught in an odd position where he seemed to be stuck, to which Alvarez disagreed. They said:
“This match was actually going very well until the end, so they go up top and JD goes for a Superplex and AJ head butts his way free, [he got all tangled up in the ropes] but, actually if you watch it, he didn’t! Like he headbutts him off, [but he was all like sideways and sh*t] I know, but what happened was he’s standing there and then he just moved sideways and kind of just started sitting on the ropes, like nothing happened for him to get stuck and time stands still.”
The duo then discussed that the awkwardness may have been due to Dominik Mysterio forgetting his spot, which led the stars to improvise to get back on track and have a hurried finish.
This also confused the commentary team, as it seems that JD was supposed to kick out from the spot. Meltzer also agreed that the end had issues, noting:
“Dave, I think what happened is Dom forgot his spot, because when they finally got back on track, Dom jumps up on the apron and AJ knocks him off and gets right back in to the ring and he counters one move hits the Styles Clash makes the cover and like JD is flat on his back unmoving, the ref goes 1,2,3 and Michael Cole goes kick out! And there’s a pause and he goes No! Win for Styles! “
While the spot was fumbled, it seems the result was as per the plan. AJ Styles ended up taking the title and giving it to Nick Aldis, who set up a match for the same at Night of Champions.
Official WWE Update On Liv Morgan’s Injury
The Judgement Day’s woes didn’t end there as Liv Morgan sustained an injury during her match with Kairi Sane.
In a spot involving Sane taking her down, Morgan landed hard on her shoulder and rolled out of the ring. The match was called off due to her being unable to continue, and Kairi was adjudged the winner.
WWE has officially provided an update that Morgan suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Though the severity of the injury is unknown, this could lead to potential storyline changes, including the one with Nikki Bella. We wish Liv Morgan a speedy recovery.
