World Championship Match Added To Money In The Bank; WWE RAW Live Updates, Results, & Reactions

Let’s get this week started with a new episode of WWE Raw, kicking off at 8 pm EST! Will a new challenger for Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Title step up after his successful title defense against Damian Priest last week? And what will happen with Rhea Ripley’s “SmackDown” Women’s Title now that Asuka has been rewarded a neutral WWE Women’s Championship?

Today’s biggest stories:

Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano teases accepting Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Title Open Challenge

Earlier tonight on Raw, it was revealed that Finn Balor will challenge Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. However, Rollins wanted to “throw a wrench” into those plans and spice up next week’s episode of Raw by adding an open challenge for his World Heavyweight Title.

Next week’s show is in Cleveland, Ohio, and one of the hometown boys, Johnny Gargano, hinted on social media that he may very well be the man to accept the title shot. What adds to some of the intrigue is that he posted the hint as soon as Rollins was done laying down the gauntlet.

AEW

BJ Whitmer, who has now been terminated as a producer for All Elite Wrestling, was arrested on June 4th by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department in Boone County, Kentucky. He is being charged with strangulation in the first degree and burglary in the second degree, according to Fightful.

He was released from Jail on June 12, 2023, and his bond was set at $25,000. AEW issued the following statement in wake of the arrest:

“B.J. Whitmer has been terminated following his arrest on domestic violence charges. While talent and staff are ultimately responsible for their own personal actions, this behavior is intolerable within AEW. AEW has reached out to offer support to those impacted by his behavior.”

Kevin OWens

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn find a way to survive Imperium

The final break ends with Zayn hitting a sunset flip powerbomb off the top rope on Kaiser. Zayn crawls to the corner and finally gets Owens in! Gunther is in, too, but Owens stays in control with forearms and a couple of clothesline. The third attempt is met with a big boot, but Owens uses a hard clothesline to finally knock Gunther down. A senton and exploder suplex follow. Owens with a superkick and the cannonball on Gunther in the corner!

Owens is going to off! Owens with the Swanton Bomb but Gunther kicks out at two! Gunther sneaks a roll up but only gets a two. A stunner is reversed, but it just leads to Owens getting hit with a boot. Both men tag out, and Zayn meets Ludwig with an exploder suplex. Gunther pulls him out of the ring and tries for a chop, but he ends up hitting the ring post. Kaiser stays on Sami and then tags in his leader. Kaiser with a suicide dive on Owens on the outside, opening the window for Gunther to hit a finishing lariat on Zayn. It’s still just two!

Another hard clothesline from Gunther is still not quite enough! He tags in Kaiser and they use the Imperium Bomb. Owens pushes Gunther into the punfall to save the match at the very last second. Owens and Gunther start unloading punches on one another outside of the ring. Riddle is coming down to the ring to get revenge from tonight! Gunther boots him in the face, though. Owens then hits a DDT on Gunther on the ramp while Zayn hits a Blue Thunder Bomb inside the ring for the win! Owens and Zayn retain!!

Owens with a moonsault off of the second rope for another close pinfall. They trade right hands and forearms. Kaiser hits a kick and some elbows, but he eats a lariat and another senton for a two. Zayn tags in but is immediately driven into Imperium’s corner. Gunther makes a blind tag and comes in with a stiff boot for Zayn and Owens. He splashes Zayn and gets a two count of his own.

Gunther chops Zayn twice and tags in Ludwig. Kaiser uses a chinlock as he restricts his arm. Zayn eats a right and is hung up in the ring ropes. Kaiser dropkicks him to the outside, setting Zayn up for a back suplex on the apron from Gunther.

Gunther

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Imperium

Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser make their way out to the ring, followed by the ring announcer giving the proper introduction for the Tag Team Title match.

And they’re off! Gunther and Zayn get this one started. They lock up, with Gunther shoving Zayn off with ease. Sami looks amused, coming back in with another lock up. He chops away at Gunther, but is met with a knee and an uppercut. Gunther stays in control with a headlock takeover. More uppercuts follow, but Zayn actually forces Gunther outside of the ring and uses a swanton over the ropes.

Seth Rollins

Next week's Raw has a big main event booked

Rollins is backstage and gets interviewed, saying he is prepared and confident for Finn Balor. He questions if Finn is prepared for him because he might not only lose his mind if he loses, he might lose Priest, too. Rollins is feeling great, so he wants to throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing. He wants a World Title open challenge for next week’s Raw!

Damien Priest

Damian Priest has a message for Finn Balor

We see a hype video for the Women’s World Heavyweight Champion: Rhea Ripley. She’s definitely at the very top of her game right now!

Priest says no, but also tells Balor that he needs to keep his word. Priest tells him it’s his turn to finish this since he meddled in his match last week.

Owens and Zayn are on the way out, with the main event coming up next!

Chad Gable

Chad Gable vs. Erik

We return as Chad Gable with Alpha Academy and Maxxine Dupri are making their entrance. Here comes Valhalla, with Erik in action this evening! The bell rings and Erik screams in Gable’s face. He responds by telling him to shoooosh! Gable with an arm drag, but Erik retaliates with double forearms to Gable’s chest. Gable forces Erik off of the top rope and delivers a flying headbutt.

Valhalla runs after Maxxine to attack, but she counters with a beautiful arm drag. Gable uses a sunset-flip rollup for the win! Gable gets it!

Iron Sheik

The Iron Sheik is honored in a memorial video

We see a video that highlights some of the greatest moments from the career of The Iron Sheik. Rest in peace, Legend ❤️

Raquel Gonzalez

Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shayna Baszler

Rodriguez enters first, followed by Baszler with Rousey by her side. The two women lock up, with Rodriguez taking over with power and hitting a fallaway slam. She does it once more! An attempt at a twisting senton is stopped by Baszler sliding out of the ring. She misses a big boot and gets hung up on the top rope, allowing Shayna to take over.

Baszler twists and contorts Raquel’s leg, then stomping fiercly on her ankle. Rodriguez with a clothesline and multiple kicks to the hamstring of Shayne. She knocks the feet out from under her and gets the twisting senton in on Shayna. Rousey distracts on the apron, allowing Baszler to roll Raquel up and use momentum from Rousey for the three count. Baszler steals it!

FInn Balor

Finn Balor addresses Seth Rollins

Balor brings up Seth Rollins immediately, saying he knows he’s here and he wants to talk to him right now. No jokes, no zingers, and no sing-a-longs — just facts. It takes a moment, but the World Heavyweight Champion is here! He dances down to the ring as the crowd sings his music. Balor is annoyed at the singing, asking them if they’re over.

Balor says he’s been waiting seven years to say this, and the people better shut up. They don’t; they just keep it going. Balor says they can sing about the fact that seven years ago, he was the first-round draft pick of Raw. He beat Roman Reigns in the draft! Weeks later, he became the first Universal Champion by defeating Seth Rollins. They don’t stop singing even when Rollins gets prepared to talk, causing him to giggle a bit and look on at Balor, amused.

Balor says it’s not funny, and this is a serious moment. Seth breaks the singing up by saying, “Kansas, you having fun tonight?” Balor starts talking, which inspires the crowd to drown him out with singing yet again. Seth asks him what he’s been waiting seven years to say what exactly? Balor says he will right now because what should have been the best moment of his life became the lowest of the low because of Rollins injuring him.

Finn understands it’s a hard business and injuries happen, but what bothered him even more than the “idiots” singing — they drown him out. Balor says the people don’t even know him because, in reality, Rollins took everything from him. Seth took his momentum, his title, and a year off of his career. Now, however, it’s turn to take it all back and take the momentum, title, and a year from his career. Balor wants him at Money in the Bank!

Rollins cackles his signature laugh. He says he’s laughing because this is the Finn Balor he’s been waiting to see for the past seven years. Seth touches back on the SummerSlam Title Match and how he got better while Balor got bitter. Seth says he’s done some bad things in his career, but he’s made history and made moments that the people will never forget. He rolled with the punches all along the way and now he’s the best version of Seth Rollins. The proof is the World Title around his waist. And if Finn wants him at MITB, his challenge is accepted! Seth wants to know which version of him will come to battle for that Title. This version, he doesn’t think he has a chance. The guy that still beat him at SummerSlam with his arm hanging off of his body might actually have a shot.

Which one will he bring? That version, or the Finn that’s been walking around for seven years acting like “a little b*tch.” Rollins dances his way up the ramp as the fans keep singing.

Ricochet

Ricochet isn't happy with that ending

Backstage, Adam Pearce confirms that the tag team title match between Owens/Zayn and Imperium will indeed be for the Tag Team Titles.

Ricochet walks over and tells Pearce he wants a rematch with Reed. He denies him, telling him that Shinsuke already has that match. Ricochet is ticked off, saying that his fight was tonight and he got in the way. If Shinsuke keeps getting in his way, he’s going to settle the score with him. Shinsuke says he’s going to succeed where Ricochet failed next week against Reed.

Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura causes a disqualification ending

We come back with Ricochet battling out of a hold with an attempt at a hurricanrana. It’s thwarted, but he still nails a handspring elbow off the ropes. A kick follows, and a an enziguri from Ricochet. He hypes himself up and uses a kick on the apron to Reed, followed by a springboard dropkick that sends Reed outside of the ring. Ricochet with a suicide dive!

He delivers a springboard splash and a lionsault for a two count. Ricochet meets Reed at the apron, but he eats an elbow. Ricochet answers with a triangle dropkick. He attempts a moonsault splash off the apron, but Reed catches him and lawn darts him into Shinsuke Nakamura at ringside. Reed tosses Ricochet back into the ring and wants the Tsunami, but Shinsuke forces the DQ by retaliating with a kick.

Reed wins technically, which ticks Ricochet off. Reed runs in and splashes both men. He uses a short-arm clothesline on Nakamura and then prepares for the Tsunami, but Ricochet stops him with an enziguri. Shinsuke follows up by putting him in a headlock, and then Ricochet joins in and they superplex Reed off the ropes.

Backstage, we see Owens and Zayn talking about how their match might be for the tag titles now. Zayn wants to know why Owens has been so frustrated and losing his cool lately. Owens says he’s had months of frustration with The Bloodline, and now he’s annoyed because Imperium is always annoying them now. He rants on but Zayn calms him down and makes sure he’s ready for this match tonight. Owens goes to get them some water as Zayn looks a bit nervous.

Finn Balor is on his way to the ring!

Ricochet

Ricochet vs. Bronson Reed

We come back from the break with Jinder Mahal of Indus Sher challenging Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin to a rematch following last week.

We see the end of Ricochet’s entrance, followed by Reed’s. Here we go! Ricochet hits a dropkick and some punches to Reed. He kicks at his massive legs, and then breaks out of Reed’s clutches. He’s still forced into the turnbuckles with force and struck with a HARD right to knock him out. Shinsuke Nakamura is coming down to the ringside area!

Ricochet is suplexed stomach-first on the top rope. Reed launches Ricochet into the air off the top rope and then splashes into him with his entire body.

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are challenged for the WWE Tag Team Titles

Backstage, Natalya is interviewed, where she says she’s lost touch with who she actually is.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owen appear, with Owens referencing his loss to Gunther last week on Raw. He was close, but tonight, they get some payback. Imperium interrupt and they say payback is exactly what happened to Riddle out in the ring tonight. And if he remembers, Owens already lost a singles match against Gunther. Zayn says there’s nothing to brag about because it took 3 guys to beat Owens last week, and now Vinci is missing. He says they’re letting them know exactly what they’re in store for.

Kaiser challenges KO and Zayn for their titles tonight. They accept as Owens loses his cool again! Imperium laugh. Zayn says to take a good luck cause they’re looking at the Undisputed Tag Team Champions. Pearce says he’s going to think about making the tag match a title shot.

We then see a replay of what happened on SmackDown between The Bloodline this week.

Gunther

Imperium picks apart what's left of Matt Riddle

Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser come down to the ring as Priest celebrates, but they lock eyes on the ramp as Damian says “pick the bones.” Imperium attacks Riddle, finishing him with a hard chop to the exposed chest of Riddle. We see a replay of what happened earlier tonight between Cody Rhodes and Dominik Mysterio.

Backstage, Cathy Kelly talks to Cody Rhodes, who says that he’s realizing that Rhea Ripley always accepts Dom’s matches and gasses him up. Rhodes thinks Dom will eventually get hurt, ’cause he just won’t go away. He knows that this MITB match will be all eyes on him as he also awaits a response from Lesnar. Dom is his next target as he waits, so he tells Dom to bring it on.

Damien Priest

Damian Priest advances to the MITB Ladder Match

The break ends as Riddle hits a couple of kicks and then snatches Priest’s ankle into the ankle lock. He tries to kick his way out of it, forcing The OG Bro to change into a headlock. Priest drops all his weight on Riddle and then uses a clothesline to level the playing field. He uses a jumping elbow in the corner, but when he goes for another, he’s put into a triangle hold on the ropes.

Priest with a hard right as Riddle hangs off the top rope. Headlock driver off the third rope for a super close two-count. Riddle reverses a South of Heaven Chokeslam, but when he tries for the Floating Bro, Priest shoves him groin-first onto the top turnbuckle. Priest wants the Razor’s Edge off the top rope, but Riddle escapes and uses a Fisherman Superplex from the top rope for another close pinfall.

Riddle sets Priest up for the Floating Bro, but Damian rolls away and hits a clutch Razor’s Edge for the three count! Priest advances!!

Riddle

Riddle vs. Damian Priest

Priest makes his entrance next, and he immediately dominates at the beginning. Priest with kicks and clubby blows, but Riddle then uses a brief ankle lock. Riddle stays on him with the Kamora Lock, followed by a Sleeper Hold. Priest gets Riddle to the corner of the ring for a stiff elbow to the face. Riddle with several strikes and then a running kick to Priest’s chest. The two continue trading and reversing strikes before coming to a staredown.

Priest falls to the outside where he grabs Riddle’s foot on the apron and drops him onto his face. Priest tries to splash on Riddle on the outside, but he eats the announce table instead. Back inside the ring, Riddle with a running forearm and clothesline. Priest shoots back with a flatliner. Damian is enraged, tossing Riddle into the corner and battering him with punch after punch. Damian with a knee to the gut and a backbreaker.

Priest goes to the outside, but Riddle chases him there with a running punt and the floating bro off the ropes to Priest on the floor. He tries for the tombstone suplex, but Priest reverses it. Riddle reverses it once more with a German suplex and bridge for the two count.

They trade strikes when rising to their feet. Priest with several kicks, but he is met with a running knee. Priest surprises Riddle with the Broken Arrow as we head to another commercial.

Damien Priest

Green regains control by pulling Becky’s leg out from under her. After that, Chelsea kicks her head into the bottom turnbuckle, but Lynch comes back shortly after with some rights. Lynch is stopped on the top rope, but Becky still manages to headbutt Green down and deliver a missile dropkick.

Becky with a baseball slide and an elbow to a standing Green on the outside. She throws Green into the barricade over and over before tossing her back into the squared circle. Green with an enziguri, but her attempt at the Unprettier is reversed. Green switches the Manhandle Slam into a pin, but it doesn’t work. Lynch with the armbar for the win!! Lynch gets the victory!

Chelsea Green

Becky Lynch vs. Chelsea Green

We come back to the break and Lynch grabs the microphone, telling the crowd that she’s lucky to do a lot of things in her career but she’s never won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. This year, she’s got a good feeling! Lynch realizes that the person with the World Title is seen as the top person in the company, but the real person is the one in power. Having the MITB briefcase will allow her to make the World Champion scared, and that’s when they might do some stupid things.

If she wants to talk about people being scared, she thinks we should talk about Trish Stratus. She was scared she was going to lose the match before it started, so she got insurance through Zoey Stark. Zoey comes out, saying “good for you” about Becky’s accomplishment. But the one accomplishment she doesn’t have is beating Trish Stratus, and at MITB, she will not beat her in the ladder match.

Lynch says they haven’t learned too much about Stark so far, but she sees how much athleticism and talent she has inside the ring. But, she thinks she has no personality. Stark says she should be looking in a mirror because she’s famous from someone breaking her face. Stark thinks Becky wants to hold onto that fame, and at MITB, she’ll break her face again and make her famous.

Chelsea Green interrupts to make her entrance. Stark is obviously infuriated from the exchange. Deville says we need to focus on the disrespect from Lynch last week when she attacked Green on the outside of the ring. They speak more about what went down last week, but Lynch tells them to shut up and get in the ring. Additionally, she wants Stark to watch her match.

Lynch with a flying forearm, a heel kick, and a kip-up. She shoves Green to the outside of the ring as we go to the commercial.

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch is on her way to the ring!

We see a rundown of the Raw card after Cody finishes celebrating inside the ring. Backstage, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are chatting with Becky Lynch. Lynch is headed to the ring! She sees American Alpha warming up, too.

Becky Lynch vs. Chelsea Green is next!

Both end up coming down to their feet, where Rhodes hits the side effect on Miz. Cody connects with a running forearm and a snap powerslam. He follows that with the Disaster Kick for a close two count! Miz kicks Cody’s knee out and uses some yes kicks, followed by a roundhouse to the head. Miz spiked Cody into the mat with a DDT, but it isn’t enough for the win.

Cody reverses the skull crushing finale and delivers a Cody Cutter. Crossrhodes for the win! That’s it! Cody wins another one.

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes vs. The Miz

We come back from the break with the bell sounding off! Cody with a couple of forearms and a dropkick, followed by an uppercut. Miz reverses a back suplex but is backed into the corner of the ring. He tosses The Miz to the outside, so Cody can follow it up with a disaster kick on the apron. Cody with a suicide dive! He tosses Miz back inside, where Miz cowers in fear. Rhodes is unfazed, hitting a dragon screw and some stomps to Miz’s legs.

Miz falls to his knees from pain, so Cody puts him in the corner and hits a chop and some stomps to the abdomen. Miz slides under Cody as he escapes the ring and then pulls Cody’s feet out from under him so his face hits the steel steps. Miz slams his face into the announce table before tossing him back into the ring. Miz stomps away and hits some strikes on Cody, then turning his attention to the injured arm of Cody.

Miz wants a DDT, but Cody reverses into a delayed forward-facing suplex. Miz evades Cody in the corner, forcing him shoulder-first into the ring post. Miz tosses him into the steel steps as we go to break.

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes confronts Dominik Mysterio

Rhodes makes it down to the ring after embracing young members of the WWE Universe in the audience. On the mic, Cody says, “So, Kansas, what do you guys wanna talk about?” Cody says we can talk about the beautiful new Championship and the legacy she has started. He has respect for Rhea. Rhodes wants to go back to what happened last week when Dom talked trash about his family and the way he fathers.

Cody wants Brock Lesnar to accept his open challenge to him but thinks he doesn’t have the balls. As for Dom, after he slapped him in the face last week, he wants a match with Dominik at Money in the Bank. Dom responds by saying he’s not afraid of anyone in the world, and he embarrassed Rhodes last week like he would anyone else.

Cody puts on some more pressure as he challenges Dom. Rhea accepts on his behalf just as The Miz slides in the ring and takes Cody down ahead of their match. Dom vs. Rhodes at MITB is happening, and Cody vs. The Miz is next!

Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley is rewarded a new Championship belt

Adam Pearce is in the ring and he presents Ripley with the “Women’s World Championship,” which is a new version of the big gold belt with the white trim around it. Ripley holds it up while the crowd cheers her on! Here comes Dominik Mysterio!

The crowd boos as he puts the belt around Rhea Ripley’s waist. It looks GREAT on her, honestly.

Ripley tells Dom to let the crowd know how amazing she is, but the audience drowns him out with boos as he tells them that it’s disrespectful. Dom says he’ll always be there for Mami and to support her. Cody Rhodes is coming to the ring!

Chris Jericho is an undeniable legend in professional wrestling, traveling the world and creating a lasting stamp on every company he touches. But even with the countless opponents and championships he’s seen, Jericho never quite got to experience one of his dream matches.

“Man I wish I would’ve gotten to work with Randy. One of my heroes for sure.”

Savage, unfortunately, passed away on May 20, 2011, due to a heart attack, though his legacy still lives on today through superstars like Jay Lethal and Juice Robinson, who have emulated him in the past.

Anthony Bowens wants LGBTQ+ representation in pro wrestling

The Acclaimed’s Anthony Bowens is an out and proud gay man, even being featured as a model in the recent Pride collection for Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty clothing line. During a new interview with Nerds & Beyond, Bowens noted how he wants LGBTQ+ representation to make its way back into a pro wrestling story, but this time, he wants it to be done delicately and with the right intentions behind it.

“I think companies should be working towards better. For me, I’d want to present it the right way, considering how things were presented in the past which was presented terribly. So I’m actively trying to figure out what would be a good story to tell; what would be the right way to go. Because, again, if we are going to do it the right way, we’ve got to make sure that we are doing it the right way. It will be under a microscope because people want to see how this goes, how it plays out, how the story’s written. So there’s a delicacy to it too. It hasn’t really been done correctly before. So that’s something that I would like to probably do in the future,” Bowens said (h/t Fightful)

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns set for first Undisputed WWE Universal Title Match since WrestleMania

Though the drama within The Bloodline is at an absolute peak right now, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has more to worry about than the internal combustion of his family. On June 17, WWE will hold a live event at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, and the main event of the night has been announced as a Universal Title defense between Reigns and WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio and Reigns have crossed paths before; in 2021, they battled for the Universal Title in a Hell in a Cell match, which Reigns ended up winning. Other stars slated to appear at the live event include Undisputed Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Intercontinental Champion Gunther, Becky Lynch, and Bayley.
