Sami Zayn might be one of the most popular Superstars in WWE, but how does the company really feel about him?
Toward the end of 2022, Sami Zayn’s already impressive popularity started to increase. By the time he felled Roman Reigns with a steel chair at the Royal Rumble that popularity had rocketed. Fast forward to Elimination Chamber and he was regarded by many as the hottest star in the company.
This led to calls for him to be introduced into the WrestleMania main event and even win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. This is despite WWE never positioning him as ‘the guy,’ like stars such as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and John Cena.
Despite Zayn’s acclaimed performances, there were numerous reports around Elimination Chamber that WWE didn’t see him as a main event star. Although at the event in his hometown, he challenged Roman Reigns for the World Title in the headline spot.
However, a source within the company has now disputed these claims. Speaking to Fightful via Fightful Select, the unnamed “higher-up” said that the company was “ecstatic” with the reactions he has been getting, describing him as “1B” for the biggest storyline on television.
They added that anyone who believes WWE doesn’t see him as a top star hasn’t been watching or “is fabricating things.” The source stated that just because he isn’t competing for the World Title, that doesn’t mean he isn’t seen at that level, noting “he’s been the MVP since last summer.”
The “higher-up” also made sure to comment on how easy Zayn was to work with during his major push.
Sami Zayn To Team With Kevin Owens At WrestleMania
Despite being on opposing sides for a number of months, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens finally reunited on the March 17th edition of SmackDown. A handful of days later on Raw the pair challenged The Usos to a match at WrestleMania for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles which was quickly accepted.
On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Zayn was presented with a new t-shirt by Owens and the pair embraced. However, they were quickly interrupted by The Usos which sparked a brawl.
