WWE Previously Planning To Sign Several AEW Stars

WWE AEW Logo over Roster

William Regal has apparently revealed that he was hoping to sign multiple current AEW stars for WWE before the company shifted direction.

William Regal was one of the driving forces on the NXT brand for several years while it was headed up by Triple H. As well as the English star’s on-screen role as the brand’s General Manager, Regal’s backstage role included scouting up and coming talent and hiring the best wrestlers that the independent scene had to offer.

Stars from Jon Moxley, Seth Rollins, Adam Cole, reDRagon, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Malakai Black, and Andrade El Idolo, all had stellar careers on NXT before many moved onto the main roster of WWE with many of those names also on the AEW roster.

But according to William Regal, there could have been three more names on the black and gold brand that now ply their trade in AEW. talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy reported that Regal told him that he wanted to bring Daniel Garcia, Ricky Starks, and Wheeler Yuta to NXT before WWE “changed directive.”

Ricky Starks made his AEW debut in June 2020 when he answered Cody Rhodes’ open challenge for the TNT Championship. Since then Starks has been a pivotal figure in Team Taz and currently holds the FTW Championship. Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs will challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Double Or Nothing.

Daniel Garcia made two appearances in AEW in 2020 before becoming a more regular fixture in the company in the summer of 2021. Garcia quickly joined forces with the duo then known as 2point0 before all three men have embraced their inner sports entertainer in The Jericho Appreciation Society.

Wheeler Yuta made his AEW debut in June 2021 and was initially aligned with the Best Friends group. However, these days the ROH Pure Champion is someone very familiar with William Regal as he joined up with the Gentleman Villain, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley in the Blackpool Combat Club.
