WWE Preparing For Former Champion’s Return

Becky Lynch Asuka in WWE

WWE has creative plans in the works for one top star’s return to action.

Back in March, reports emerged that Asuka had suffered an injury during Damage CTRL’s post-match beatdown on Bayley after Bayley faced Dakota Kai. As a precautionary measure, the star was removed from live events and replaced by IYO SKY.

The former Women’s Champion returned to action in April, and at Backlash on May 5th, The Kabuki Warriors lost their Women’s Tag Team Championship to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. The Empress of Tomorrow was scheduled to take part in the Queen of the Ring tournament, but on the May 6th episode of Raw, Dakota Kai announced that Asuka was unable to compete in the tournament due to injury and that Kai would serve as her replacement.

In June, Asuka posted a YouTube video detailing her experience with the surgery she had for her knee injury and detailing the next steps in her rehabilitation.

Now, Fightful Select reports that the company is working toward the star’s return and that creative plans have been discussed. In particular, a tag team opportunity was pitched within the company before ultimately being dismissed.

There is no current timetable as to when the former Women’s Champion will return, and she’s not been seen training at the Performance Center to the best of Fightful’s knowledge.

Will Asuka Be In The 2025 WWE Royal Rumble?

Fightful Select makes it clear that while the company is working on a return for Asuka, there is no word as to whether or not she’ll be part of the 2025 Royal Rumble in Indianapolis on February 1st.

One of the star’s longtime rivals, however, will be part of the Royal Rumble as Charlotte Flair’s return was announced during Saturday Night’s Main Event.
