WWE are making plans for the arrival of an AEW star still under contract with the company.
Over the past couple of years many wrestlers previously contracted with AEW such as Ethan Page, Jade Cargill and most recently Ricky Starks [now known as Ricky Saints], all make the jump to the rival promotion, a stark change to the start of the decade when the opposite occurred.
In January 2025, former AEW Tag Team Champion Penta made his arrival on the Raw brand and has been prominently featured over the past few weeks. While Penta has competed as a solo star during his time on Raw, it was previously reported that the original plan was for the luchador to join the company at the same time as his brother and tag team partner Rey Fenix, leading to The Lucha Bros going on a tag team run.
The reason for Penta making his arrival on Raw as a solo star is reportedly due to issues with Fenix’s contract. As Fenix reportedly missed TV time due to injury, the former International Champion had time added to his contract as was unable to leave the promotion at the same time as Penta. Previous reports have indicated that Fenix will not become a free agent until the summer of 2025.
However, as reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE are preparing for Fenix’s arrival in the company, but note that the former Tag Team Champion is still under contract with AEW:
“They [WWE] are making plans for Rey Fenix although there has been no confirmation Fenix has been released from his AEW contract”
Another Ex-AEW Star On Their Way To WWE?
Throughout February, multiple wrestlers previously signed with AEW have departed the company either via release or contract expiry. According to a recent report, a former AEW star is set to be making their way back to WWE imminently.
