WWE Planning Swerves For Upcoming Gimmick Match

Triple H, Robert Roode, Jeremy Borash and others discuss WWE creative plans

WWE’s creative team stays busy writing several hours of new programming each week. And now, new details are being revealed on an interesting ring change for an upcoming match that will also feature a few swerves and surprises.

WWE and AAA have made waves around the pro wrestling world since announcing their new alliance during WrestleMania 41 weekend. The companies will make history once again this weekend as they present the first post-acquisition edition of Triplemania, which is AAA’s flagship event. Triplemania XXXIII will take place on Saturday, August 16, at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. The supercard will air live at 9 pm ET via the WWE, WWE Español, and AAA YouTube channels.

Konnan, Corey Graves, and JBL have been confirmed for English-language commentary, but it’s possible that the former Max Moon will not call the whole show as he’s being inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame by Rey Mysterio. A new report from PWInsider added that WWE was sending Marcello Rodriguez to Triplemania to be on the Spanish-language commentary team.

World Wrestling Entertainment has confirmed that The Copa Bardahl or The Bardahl Cup will return to the AAA ring at Triplemania this weekend. The latest word from backstage is that WWE is planning a few surprises in the match, with rumors of a top superstar making the trip to Mexico City for a surprise appearance.

AAA had to fulfill several commitments after WWE’s acquisition, and that included a sponsorship deal with Bardahl Manufacturing Corporation, a Seattle-based company that provides lubricants along with additives for oil and gasoline. The Bardahl branding can often be seen on the AAA ring cover, and as the presenting sponsor of the Bardahl Cup matches held at Triplemania events. It’s believed that WWE will have to use the Bardahl-themed yellow cover for the match on Saturday.

The Bardahl Cup is similar to the Royal Rumble or King of the Hill-style bouts. There are usually 12-15 participants, who have not been announced as of this writing, and each entrant joins the match at timed intervals. All eliminations are done via pinfall, and the last man standing wins The Bardahl Cup trophy. Mr. Iguana, Octagon Jr., The Beast Mortos, and Laredo Kid have won the match in recent years.
