Despite not appearing in WWE for nearly four years, Jon Moxley recently received a surprise tip of the hat from his former employers.
The three-time AEW World Champion Moxley, wrestled under the name Dean Ambrose during a hugely successful spell with WWE, rising to fame alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins as part of The Shield.
Over a nine-year period, Ambrose became a Grand Slam Champion, lifting the WWE Championship, Intercontinental, United States, and Raw Tag Team Championships.
The success has not been forgotten as WWE paid homage to Jon Moxley by adding a special easter egg in the latest edition of the 2K game series, WWE 2K23.
During the latest promotional release of the game, a cardboard box with the words ‘Dirty Deeds’ can be seen, the name of Moxley’s finishing move during his WWE career.
With more hidden easter eggs and surprises to be found, 2K23 is receiving positive reviews and looks set to be hugely successful after becoming the number-one-bought game in the UK after its release.
Jon Moxley Open To WWE Return
During an interview in 2022, Moxley explained that a return to WWE could be a possibility, despite stating AEW is the best time of his career.
Moxley told Bleacher Report that he “wouldn’t rule out” going back into the WWE spotlight.
“You gotta say never say never, because you don’t want to run back what you said years later because you don’t know what’ll happen. Just the creation of AEW was so vital to the wrestling industry, and that’s part of the reason why I’m so proud to be a part of it. I wouldn’t rule out ever doing business with them again, we had a mutually beneficial relationship for a long time.”
With Cody Rhodes headlining WrestleMania 39 after being the first former AEW TNT Champion to rejoin WWE, it shows there is a pathway to further success should Moxley follow suit.
Rhodes is challenging Moxley’s former teammate Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on night two of an event WWE CEO Nick Khan has promised will be full of surprises.
