Top NXT star, happy with his current position, is in no rush for a WWE main roster push.
A part of WWE from 2006 to 2009, and then again from 2013 to 2019, current North American Champion Shawn Spears has witnessed different eras of the promotion. Departing the company in 2019, Spears made his way into AEW, where he remained a regular act before coming back to NXT in 2024.
Since his return last year, Spears has remained one of the pillar figures of the brand and maintained his popularity amongst the fans. Aside from his televised appearances, Spears also holds some backstage duties. Recently, speaking with Gabby LaSpisa on Gabby AF, ahead of his March 4th NXT North American Championship win, Spears opened up on his thoughts about a main roster run.
“I’m not going anywhere. This is the last stop. [Gabby says she wants to see him on the main roster]. I, no. I mean no in a sense where it’s not my call. If Hunter plucks me, a chicken, if he plucks me, it’s his call. If Shawn says, ‘Go up,’ it’s their call. Right now, I am very fulfilled, I’m very happy with where I am. I’m very happy with what I’m doing. I love this.
The awesome thing for me is that everybody on the main roster now, everybody in those top spots, to some degree. I’ve wrestled them somewhere. Developmental or in different companies, I’ve been with them, and now to see them all, I’m still a part of the machine. I’m still there. We’re just in different sections of the company. We’re all in it together, and that’s the beautiful thing, and I’m good with that.”

Satisfied with his current bookings and status, Spears defeated Tony D’Angelo on the March 4th episode to win his first title in the promotion.
