WWE NXT Star Hopeful That CM Punk Will Help Make Dream Match Possible

A top star in WWE NXT is hoping that CM Punk is able to convince a retired wrestler to come back for one more run.

In 2022, what many believed to be unthinkable happened as Punk made his return to wrestling in AEW in Chicago. Following an acrimonious exit just over 2 years later, Punk shocked the world even more when he arrived back in WWE nearly 10 years after walking out of the company when frustrations boiled over, proving that anything can happen in the wild world of professional wrestling.

While Punk has made his return to the ring in both promotions and is very much out of his retirement, his wife and former Women’s Champion AJ Lee has stayed out of the ring since 2015, last competing on the Raw after WrestleMania 31. With Punk back in WWE, NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez is once again hopeful that her dream match with AJ Lee is possible and has talked to Punk about it being a possibility.

Speaking with Al Castle of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Perez stated that Punk has also tried to convince the former Women’s Champion to make a comeback and is hopeful that it could still happen:

“Definitely, yeah, I try [to talk to CM Punk about convincing A.J. Lee to return] but he tells me that he’s doing the same thing. He’s trying to get her to come back, he’s pulling her in, but I hope one day she decides to come back and have a match with me.”

CM Punk Preparing For His Own Comeback Match

Announcing that he was cleared to compete on the July 22nd episode of Raw, CM Punk will finally face off against Drew McIntyre in a match that many fans have been hopeful for since WrestleMania. To raise the stakes of the match, a stipulation has also been added.

In other news, a former WWE star has called out Bobby Lashley for a match outside of the company.
