A long-time WWE NXT star has criticised Dave Meltzer following his rating of their recent high-profile match!
Dave Meltzer’s star ratings have been a highly controversial topic amongst wrestling fans in the last few years. While some see them as the key standard for which all matches so be held too, others question their credibility given the fact that Meltzer has never competed in the ring himself.
It appears that fans aren’t the only ones divided on these ratings as one particular NXT star has hit out at the journalist following his recent rating of one of their matches.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer revealed his ratings for NXT’s latest Premium Live Event Battleground. Most notably, he gave a three and a quarter stars rating to the North American Triple Threat match between champion Oba Femi, Wes Lee and Joe Coffey.

Dave Meltzer’s rating attracted the attention of one of the match’s competitors. In response to a fan sharing their confusion at the rating, Joe Coffey posted a video on X where he made it clear he doesn’t respect the journalist’s opinion and only cares about the thoughts of those backstage at WWE.
“That’s because he doesn’t have a f**king clue what goes in to professional wrestling because he’s never laced up a pair (of boots).
Do you know the people’s opinions that I respect? The people when I go through the curtain who tell me if it’s good or bad. That’s who I respect.”
