WWE’s weekend of action kicked off with NXT Stand & Deliver.
Taking place live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on April 6th, the show took place just a few hours before WrestleMania Saturday got underway across the street at Lincoln Financial Field. The attendance for the event was 16,545, the largest crowd in the history of the brand.
Following on from Carmelo Hayes’ shocking betrayal of Trick Williams at Vengeance Day, Williams would make his return at the Roadblock special to seek revenge on his former best friend, leading to a match being made official for Stand & Deliver. Ahead of time, Shawn Michaels confirmed that Williams vs. Hayes would be the main event of the show. Michaels heavily praised both Williams and Hayes and stated that they both earned to headline the show.
Additionally, Tony D’Angelo challenged Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship after expressing frustrations that it was being centred around Dragunov, Hayes and Williams. Looking to prove himself to be a worthy challenger at Roadblock, D’Angelo faced Hayes with the winner advancing to Stand & Deliver. Seizing his opportunity, Tony D’Angleo utilised a distraction via Williams’ entrance music to pin Hayes at Roadblock and became the new number one contender.
