Live Results and Analysis Provided by ITRWrestling Writer Liam Stewart

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez defeat Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro via pinfall to advance to the Dusty Cup Finals

  • We get full entrances from both teams with two well executed pre-match promos from the teams, K and K say that they are the bracket breakers and they are here to do that again.
  • The chemistry between Carter and Catanzaro show immediate chemistry isolating Kai early on with a flurry of fast tags and well executed Tag Team offence.
  • Gonzalez Gorilla Presses Catanzaro through the middle rope before dropping her partner [Kai] knees first onto the prone Catanzaro.
  • Carter gets an incredible shine spot as she utilises a range of strikes and rope assisted offence to chop down and work over Gonzalez and Kai.
  • The heel duo regain control as Kai swipes Carter’s legs off the apron before Gonzalez pushes her from the apron onto the announce table causing Carter to take a vicious bump.
  • Catanzaro comes in as the hot tag and works over Kai with a unique portfolio of high octane offence including a huge crossbody from the arena scaffolding!
  • A Basement ‘Rana sets Catanzaro up for her huge inverted Pheonix Splash but Gonzalez is able to get the shoulder up.
  • Gonzalez counters a second ‘Rana attempt from Catanzaro into the One-Handed Powerbomb and it is enough to keep the underdog down.
  • Raquel and Dakota progress to the finals of the Dusty Cup at the newly named NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day.

Analysis:I think a clear sign of how high WWE NXT are on Raquel Gonzalez is how her and Dakota’s entrance has shifted focus from Kai to Gonzalez No longer the afterthought, no longer a method to elevate Kai now a star in the making. Kayden Carter is one hell of a sleeper talent! Quietly become one of WWE NXT‘s most uniquely talented in-ring performers! This Dusty Cup has been great for getting eyes on both her and Kacy’s immense talent!

A combination of Catanzaro’s speed and great camera work made the huge outside splash look phenomenally believable The heels didnt look like they were standing waiting but instead it looked like they got caught off guard.

Fantastic Opener!

Toni Storm Predicts The Outcome of her NXT Women’s Title Match

  • Small interview segment in which Storm states she understands that Shirai is unbeatable and that is true to anyone…not called Toni Storm.
  • She references back to the MYC Finals and how she has already beaten Shirai once and this time it will be even easier.
  • Calls Martinez deadweight and dismisses her as a factor in anyway.

Analysis: Toni Storm continues to improve on the mic which was clearly the weakest part of her game, this still had a little tone of pantomime about it but it’s come along way since the days of ‘The Shiny Shiny’.

Austin Theory [w/ Johnny Gargano] defeats Leon Ruff via pinfall, Lumis makes the save.

  • Theory debuts a new [I think] theme complete with a hype man MC almost similar to Kenny Omega on AEW.
  • The Understudy of the Gargano Patriarch is clearly the superior athlete however Ruff utilises his immense speed to escape several grapple attempts from Theory.
  • Ruff attempts a float over roll-up but is unable to out power Theory to follow through so instead modifies the pin into one of the Crucifix Variety.
  • After countering an interference attempt from Gargano, Ruff meets a huge shoulder tackle from Theory which sends him to the outside.
  • Hartwell and LeRae attempt to get involved but their Dusty Cup opponents Shotzi and Ember Moon counter their interference.
  • With the referee distracted Ruff pulls a Vintage Guerrero move dropping to the ground and faking interference causing Drake Younger to send Gargano to the back.
  • Ruff gets laid out by Theory before the ATL gives the former Evolve Superstar the pinfall victory.
  • Post match clearly tired of Ruff’s interference Theory hits a further ATL before attempting to strike him with the ring bell, Lumis appears tearing out Theory’s hair sending him running and saving Ruff.

Analysis: This match was fundamentally solid, good babyface fire vs heel heat however I feel like the involvement of Lumis ended it on a sour note. Lumis has been pretty cold in WWE NXT when not working comically with Cameron Grimes. This will likely result in a tag match between Ruff & Lumis and Gargano & Theory and i’m not really excited on interested in this and the thought of Lumis as NA Champion fills me with dread.

Xia Li Video Package

  • We are currently getting an immaculate video package for Xia Li and Boa utilising authentic East Asian Art Style
  • It recaps the mentors history relating it to a folk tale involving the sacrificing of ones soul to a Dragon to escape a horrible father.
  • The mentor is feared around the world and cannot feel fear herself having killed her father and brother.
  • Watch this segment above all else, uniquely incredible.
Analysis: Everything about this Xia Li storyline has been phenomenal and amazingly executed!

Legado Del Fantasma defeat Lucha House Party via pinfall, MSK make their intentions known.

  • Commentary put over the injuries sustained by LHP during their RAW Tag Team Title match on Monday Night.
  • The Springboard Specialist gives LHP an early advantage however Wilde [who recently became a father for the first time] hits an incredible darting Suicide Dive to regain control for LDF.
  • Returning from the Ad-Break, Medoza is the recipient of a huge top rope Sunset Flip Powerbomb from Metalik giving LHP the opening to make a much needed tag.
  • Metalik hits a huge rope walk Rana onto the outside before Dorado hits a huge Moonsault onto both Mendoza and Wilde but appears to hit his head on the announce table.
  • Legado pick up the quick win following up on Dorado’s huge fall from the top rope, post match MSK come out and cut a quick comical promo on LDF calling them the Tito to their Michael Jackson.

Analysis: A very fun, uniquely Lucha Libre match that you would only get on WWE NXT. I hope Lince is okay as he appeared to clutch his head constantly after seemingly striking it with forces off the corner of the announce table. LDF vs. MSK could be very, very fun and a showcase of light-heavyweight wrestling style that developed and rose to prominence in NA from the origins of Mexico’s Lucha Libre style.

Pete Dunne calls out Finn Balor, Balor challenges him to a NXT Title Match at NXT TakeOver: Vengance Day… Edge Arrives in NXT.

  • Pete Dunne justifies his actions last week [read about them here] as his way of reminding Balor what he said two-weeks ago, that he isn’t waiting anymore.
  • He warns Balor to come out now or force him to make it even more clear.
  • Balor comes out calling Dunne a coward for waiting in-line behind Lorcan and Burch, this prompts Dunne to send the tag team to the back.
  • Finn Balor vs. Pete Dunne for the NXT Championship is our NXT TakeOver: Vengance Day Main Event.
  • Edge interrupts the segment coming out, explaining the importance NXT has had on his rehab and reminding him of his passion.
  • The Rated-R Superstar compares Pete Dunne to a young Edge, a huge compliment.
  • The 2021 Royal Rumble winner states that he will be watching their match at TakeOver closely because he has never had the NXT Championship and he wants it.

Analysis: Wow, what an adrenaline rush this segment was. Start to finish full of intensity and dream match moments. Firstly, Balor vs Dunne is a phenomenal main event for any TakeOver show add in the tease of Edge vs. The Winner at WrestleMania and you have a phenomenal segment. Now…we all *think* that we know Edge isn’t facing Balor or Dunne for the NXT Championship at WrestleMania but for the duration of this promo Edge made me believe he might and that, well thats the sign of a great promo.

Jessi Kamea [w/ The Robert Stone Brand] defeats Toni Storm by DQ following interference from Mercedes Martinez.

  • Jessi Kamea is confirmed as the most recent signing of The Robert Stone Brand.
  • Storm is aiming to take her frustrations out on Kamea following her elimination from the Dusty Cup.
  • Martinez interrupts the match, striking Kamea down causing the DQ.
  • As Storm and Martinez brawl, Shari makes her way to the top rope and simply watches from above.
  • With Storm and Martinez on the outside Shiari hit the Over-The-Moonsault and appears to make knee-to-skull contact with Martinez, hopefully just great selling on Mercedes behalf.

Analysis: Not too much to analyse but hopefully Martinez is fine and hey, technically RSBrand got the win here!

Santos Escobar [w/ Legado Del Fantasma] defeats Curt Stallion via pinfall, Kross attacks

  • Escobar gets a full entrance however his opponent gets a skipped entrance on his WWE NXT Debut.
  • The build here is the clash of wrestling origins and personalities, with Escobar born into wrestling whereas Stallion has adopted the art.
  • As Escobar dominates and I mean completely dominates Stallion, Scarlett appears at ringside simply watching the match unfold.
  • Stallion gets a near fall from a roll-up as Escobar glances over at the Siren of Death.
  • Commentary shifts quickly from the in-ring action onto Scarlett’s intentions and why she is so focused on Escobar.
  • Curt Stallion gets a big near-fall following a big dive to the outside complimented with a top rope splash.
  • Legado gives Escobar the win, however the celebration is short lived as Kross storms the ring.
  • Kross lays out Mendoza and Wilde before in a round about way challenging Escobar to a TakeOver match.

Analysis: This is Stallion’s first major NXT match and its for a title… and they don’t think its probably a good idea to give the lad a full attention entrance? Can we get this cut entrance stuff in the bin ASAP. Interesting similarities in booking the Cruiserweight Champions against very clearly not Cruiserweight opponents.Devlin looks to be entering a feud with Trent Seven whilst Escobar looks to be entering a feud with Karrion Kross. Not sure If I am simply just not into this match or not but feels like its halted all the shows momentum Really needs to pick up in the go home segments to save it.

Kross vs Escobar could be incredibly interesting if they tie into the value and importance of Death in Latin culture. Death in this case Kross is treated very differently in Mexico than it is in the rest of the Western World

Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa defeat Undisputed Era via pinfall, progress to Dusty Cup Semi-Finals.

  • Prior to the match, Karrion Kross and Edge exchange words in the car park seemingly planting the seed for a potential feud should Edge stick around for a few weeks.
  • Really strong fast pace opening between Cole and Ciampa who throwback to their storied rivalry with a sequence of counters and signature offence exchanges.
  • Thatcher and Ciampa function efficiently during the opening exchanges of the match making several clean tags with strong communication between the two.
  • Strong is isolated by Thatcher and worked over using Thatcher’s signature submission focused style, both Ciampa and Thatcher develop an increasingly sinister facial appearances as the match progresses.
  • A huge Superplex from Strong creates a possible opening to get the former NXT Champion involved, and Cole comes in with a huge amount of momentum increasing the tempo of the match tenfold.
  • A huge mess in the best way unfolds ending with Thatcher taking a bullet [non literal] for Ciampa allowing him to hit the Willows Bell onto Strong to pick up the win.
  • Post match Thatcher & Ciampa brawl with their Semi final opponents the GYV.
