The dust has settled on the WWE Draft, and two of WWE NXT’s former tag team champions were shocked to be called up to the main roster.
Kayden Carter and Katana Chance are no strangers to success, currently holding the record as the longest-reigning NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. They won the titles after they were vacated by Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade, and they reigned for an impressive 186 days before losing to the unlikely duo of Fallon Henley and Kiana James.
Ahead of their scheduled title match with current champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, Chance and Carter were announced as being drafted to WWE Raw. While they failed to recapture tag team gold on the following episode of NXT, the pair are looking ahead to their future on the red brand, and a video package introducing the women was played on the May 8th episode of Raw.
Speaking on a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, the duo opened up about their feelings about being drafted, particularly being kept together as a tag team. Chance spoke first, saying:
“It’s just surreal. We’ve been working for this for so long and together as a team as well. We’ve had the opportunity to stay together for four years now as a team so, to be able to share this moment and finally be there, it just doesn’t feel real yet, it’s only been a week.”
“It hasn’t kicked in yet, it hasn’t kicked in yet.”
“Wait, What’s Happening?” – Katana Chance On Not Knowing She’d Be Drafted From WWE NXT
When asked if they knew in advance whether they’d be involved in the Draft, Chance made it clear that they had no idea their futures were about to change. In fact, she said they were pretty sure they wouldn’t be drafted, particularly after seeing Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn called up to SmackDown.
“No. We actually were pretty sure it wasn’t happening. Not only did we not know, we thought we weren’t [getting called up]. Especially when the Women’s Tag Champs got brought up, we were like ‘Man, that’s the tag team that they’re taking and that’s it’, you know? Then, the very last [second], at like 10:30pm on Monday and we’re at the watch party and we were like ‘I think it’s over’ and then they just like, said our names and we were like ‘Wait, what’s happening? What brand did they even say?’”
