A recently returned superstar on NXT 2.0 was planned to take the title away from Mandy Rose.
Nikkita Lyons made her WWE debut on an episode of 205 Live, losing to Amari Miller. She would later transition to NXT 2.0 and defeat the likes of Arianna Grace, Lash Legend, and Natalya.
Lyon later suffered a partially torn MCL, taking her out of the first-ever Women’s Breakout Tournament. However, she returned last month and defeated NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose via disqualification.
According to Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer, the plan was for Lyons to defeat Rose for the championship. Meltzer also stated that since the rise of Roxanne Perez, most of those early plans are in question:
“Roxanne Perez should be the person. She’s young, she’s very good, she’s very charismatic. She’d be a good one to win that championship. I know that there was talk of Nikkita Lyons winning but not for a long time, not right now.”
Perez won the Women’s Breakout Tournament and took the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships from Toxic Attraction with her partner Cora Jade. However, Jade cost Perez her shot at the Women’s Championship in the most recent episode of NXT 2.0. As the women’s scene begins to heat up, who knows which up-and-coming talent will step up to the challenge and try to take the title away from Rose next.
