A new report has shed light on where things currently stand with regards to Cody Rhodes’ rumoured return to WWE.
Since Cody Rhodes announced the shock news in February that both he and his wife Brandi would be leaving AEW, numerous reports have indicated that the three-time TNT Champion would be returning to WWE, the promotion where his career first began. As recently as February 21st, WWE hinted at the move themselves when they dropped several references to Rhodes during that day’s episode of Raw.
However, a recent report by Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net claimed that Rhodes signing with WWE is now far from the sure thing it was originally thought to be and discussions between the two parties have now “fizzled out”.
On the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer weighed in on the situation, saying that Cody Rhodes was “on the books” in WWE, but bow things are a lot more uncertain.
“His status has changed, in theory. He was on the books in WWE. They had creative laid out for him. They still thought on Friday that they had creative laid out for him and then now it’s very uncertain. They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s up in the air. They don’t know. They thought they had him. It’s not like’s it’s dead, it’s not like they think they don’t have him but they are not sure. So, that’s the situation with Cody.”
Touching on the speculation that Tony Khan’s recent acquisition of Ring of Honor might have changed things for Cody, Meltzer said at this point we would have to wait and see how everything plays out.
“Everyone in the world thinks that Cody runs Ring of Honor or something. I suppose there’s a way to do that angle and everything like that, you know? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.”
