WWE Not Expecting Former AEW Champion To Be Available “Anytime Soon”

WWE To Go Head-To-Head With Major AEW Show

Although WWE are interested in signing another former AEW Champion to their ranks, it is not expected to be happening anytime soon.

Although the start of the decade saw many WWE stars become All Elite after being released or choosing to let their contracts expire, recent months have seen the opposite occur with many former AEW stars such as Andrade, Ethan Page and most recently Penta all sign with the sports entertainment titan. Now following recent rumours and reports, fans have speculated that another big name could be making the jump.

At the start of the week, a report stated that former AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker was effectively done with the company and that Tony Khan was “fed up” with her. With the report generating a considerable amount of buzz online, many suspected that they might see Baker in a WWE ring imminently. However, while Baker’s AEW future appears to be uncertain, the former Women’s Champion won’t be making the move just yet.

Discussing the Baker situation on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass podcast, WrestleVotes stated that while there would be significant interest in signing the AEW star, they do not expect her to be a free agent in the near future:

“We followed up on the Brit Baker potentially being out of AEW story. We did ask an AEW source for clarification, which was met with no comment. We then asked the WWE source if the company would be interested in her if she became available. That’s the key, if she became available, which we were told a resounding yes, but they don’t expect that to be the case anytime soon. WWE does not expect Britt Baker to be available anytime soon.”

Former WWE Star Open To Return

While stars being let go from the company is much less frequent under the new ownership, multiple stars have been released or seen their contracts not renewed in the past 18 months. With former stars having a history of returning, there is very much a chance that some familiar faces may come back. In a recent interview, one former WWE star stated that they were still open to a return if the opportunity presented itself.

In other news, Baron Corbin elaborated on his previous comments regarding Rey Fenix.
