WWE and NFL legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael is no more.
Reports earlier today announced the death of Steve “Mongo” McMichael at age 67. McMichael had entered hospice care on Wednesday. Since his 2021 diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, he had confronted numerous health challenges.
Former professional football running back Jarrett Payton informed the fans about McMichael’s passing.
“With deep sorrow, I share that Steve McMichael passed at 5:28 PM after a brave fight with #ALS, surrounded by loved ones. I’m grateful to have been with him in his final moments. Please keep Steve and his family your prayers.”
Later, Dave Meltzer also reported the same.
As a wrestler, Steve Mongo McMichael enjoyed a successful run as a part of the Four Horsemen in WCW, and is also a former WCW United States Champion. Before his WCW run, McMichael also enjoyed a brief run with WWE in 1995.
Before his wrestling career, McMichael achieved Hall of Fame status in football, culminating in a Super Bowl victory with the Chicago Bears during the 1985-1986 season. His NFL career sack total stands at 92.5, the second highest in Bears franchise history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
