On December 15th Mandy Rose was shockingly released by WWE just 24-hours after losing the NXT Women’s Championship. While the feel-good win was greeted positively by fans online at the time, it is now being seen in a different light.
Rose’s release came after WWE became aware of the content she was posting on her Fantime page, which they felt was outside of the parameters of her WWE deal. The issue was seemingly less with the fact that she had the subscription service, and more to do with the content she was posting. Her exit comes just days after a series of images and videos from the service were posted online.
Mandy Rose Crossed The Line – WWE
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer added some more context to the situation. Mandy Rose was always planned to lose the NXT Women’s Championship to Roxanne Perez, but the switch was moved up after Shawn Michaels was made aware of the content on her subscription service.
“They switched the whole show around because they – what happened was, there was a meeting and Matt Bloom brought to Shawn Michaels, told him what some of the stuff that she’s been putting on her subscription service is.”
The feeling within WWE was that as the service became increasingly popular, Rose pushed the boundaries with the nature of the posts. Eventually if was felt that she had gone “way, way” past the line of what the company were comfortable with.
“She’s had the subscription service, and it got popular and lucrative, and she went further and further, and the feeling was that she way, way, way crossed the line. And they believe that they had absolutely no choice but to get rid of her.”
Mandy Rose won the NXT Women’s Title back in October 2021, defeating Raquel Rodriguez at Halloween Havoc. Rose had only returned to the brand three months earlier after a largely unsuccessful stint on the main roster.
At the time of her defeat, Rose was only days away from eclipsing Shayna Baszler’s 416 day reign to become the second-longest reigning champion. Asuka holds the record for the longest reign with the title at 522 days.
