WWE Felt They Had “No Choice” But To Release Mandy Rose

Mandy Rose NXT Women's Champion

On December 15th, Mandy Rose was shockingly released by WWE just 24 hours after losing the NXT Women’s Championship. While the feel-good win was greeted positively by fans online at the time, it is now being seen in a different light.

Rose’s release came after WWE became aware of the content she was posting, which they felt was outside of the parameters of her WWE deal. The issue was seemingly less with the fact that she had similar ventures outside the company, and more to do with the content she was posting. Her exit comes just days after a series of images and videos from the service were posted online.

Mandy Rose Crossed The Line – WWE

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer added some more context to the situation. Mandy Rose was always planned to lose the NXT Women’s Championship to Roxanne Perez, but the switch was moved up after Shawn Michaels was made aware of her content.

“They switched the whole show around because they – what happened was, there was a meeting and Matt Bloom brought to Shawn Michaels, told him what some of the stuff that she’s been putting”

The feeling within WWE was that as the service became increasingly popular, Rose pushed the boundaries with the nature of the posts. Eventually, it was felt that she had gone “way, way” past the line of what the company was comfortable with.

“It got popular and lucrative, and she went further and further, and the feeling was that she way, way, way crossed the line. And they believe that they had absolutely no choice but to get rid of her.”

Mandy Rose won the NXT Women’s Title back in October 2021, defeating Raquel Rodriguez at Halloween Havoc. Rose had only returned to the brand three months earlier after a largely unsuccessful stint on the main roster.

At the time of her defeat, Rose was only days away from eclipsing Shayna Baszler’s 416-day reign to become the second-longest reigning champion. Asuka holds the record for the longest reign with the title at 522 days.
