HUGE! WWE Makes Major Move; Potentially Taking Steps Outside Wrestling

WWE new move

WWE is seemingly foraying into other genres away from wrestling, after their latest move sparked major speculation.

WWE Studios, formerly known as WWE Films, was a big asset for the company after they made many films featuring some top stars from the company, including John Cena, Randy Orton, The Miz, and others. The pro wrestling behemoth’s foray into filmmaking first started in 2002 when WWE Films was first created. The subsidiary first started with three films, namely The Condemned starring Stone Cold Steve Austin, Marine starring John Cena, and See No Evil, starring Kane. The company then changed the name to Studios in 2008 and pushed for some more movies featuring a plethora of other stars and pairing up with 20th Century Fox.

It now seems WWE Films is making a return.

WWE Has Filed A Huge Trademark

In the space of television and entertainment, there are few competitors to World Wrestling Entertainment. The company, which is currently being led by Triple H as head of creative, holds the record for the longest-running weekly episode TV show in RAW and also has a sweet deal with SmackDown on the USA Network. The promotion’s third brand, NXT, has a deal with the CW Network, while they also have a running deal with NBC and ESPN for NXT PLEs and main roster PLEs, respectively.

Amidst all this, the promotion, currently owned by the Endeavor Group, also has a running relationship with the A&E Network for shows such as Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal and WWE LFG, among others.

Now the company has tried to trademark WWE Films. This will potentially mark the promotion’s entry into films once again after the subsidiary was let go in 2008.

For: PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF MOTION PICTURE FILMS AND TELEVISION PROGRAMS; PRODUCTION OF SOUND AND MUSIC VIDEO RECORDINGS; MOVIE STUDIOS.”

How the promotion plans to utilize this trademark are something only Father Time can reveal, but for now, it could mean that the company is foraying into parts unknown and could very well have made some key moves.
