Is Cristiano Ronaldo a sports entertainer? WWE may be banking on it.
Matters always gets a bit wild for WWE when the company heads Saudi Arabia twice a year and they reportedly have one of the world’s top footballers in mind for WWE Crown Jewel in November. Cristiano Ronaldo has no pro wrestling ties whatsoever, but according to Madrid’s Diario AS publication, WWE is currently working on a deal to have Ronaldo join the company for the event.
As surreal as it seems, bringing in a name like Ronaldo for a Saudi show makes plenty of sense as the star plays for not only the Portugal national team, but also captains the Saudi League team Al Nassar. Previously, Ronaldo has been called out by Sheamus and praised by Apollo Crews for having the right mentality to compete in WWE.
In recent news, the main event for WWE Crown Jewel has been confirmed.
Besides Cristiano Ronaldo, What Other Non-Wrestlers Have Been Brought In For Saudi Arabia?
Cristiano Ronaldo will be far from the first, nor the last to appear on one of WWE’s major Saudi shows. Preceding him are the likes of former two-time UFC Champion Cain Velasquez and World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury. Both men competed in singles action as Velaquez fought Brock Lesnar in a losing effort while Fury knocked out Braun Strowman to win via countout.
It’s not just non-wrestlers showing up for the high-paying Saudi shows, but many WWE Hall Of Famers have showed up for a payday. Goldberg, The Undertaker and even Shawn Michaels all made the trip overseas to compete in the ring once again over the course of the company’s current ten-year deal with the controversial country.
