The Rock continues to dominate Hollywood in the final months of the year.
In early November, the Christmas action movie Red One hit movie theatres worldwide, which sees Rock team up with Captain America star Chris Evans to save Christmas after Santa Claus, played by J.K. Simmons was kidnapped.
While select showings of the movie are still available in theatres, Red One is now available to stream on Amazon Prime as part of the subscription. Although the movie did not perform as well as many had hoped in cinemas, the streaming numbers tell a very different story.
As reported by Deadline, Red One was viewed by 50 million people in its first 4 days on Prime Video, making it the most-watched Amazon MGM Studios film and shattering the previous record set by Road House, which took 2 weeks to achieve the same figure. Jennifer Salkem the head of Amazon MGM Studios, touted the success of Red One and anticipates that it will be a firm holiday favourite for years to come:
“Given the audience response to Red One both in theaters and on Prime Video, the film will clearly be a perennial holiday favorite for years to come. Every film is different, and we are so grateful for the partnership with our filmmakers in collectively finding the right strategy to get this film in front of the widest possible audience.
With Red One, there was no doubt that strategy needed to include a theatrical release and associated marketing campaign, which drove audiences to theaters and generated awareness for the film with viewers who would ultimately tune in on Prime Video. It’s rewarding to see our plan pay off for customers, and we are incredibly thankful to the entire filmmaking team and cast who helped make it happen.”
Many Anticipating The Rock’s WWE Return
The Hollywood star has been absent from WWE TV since Bad Blood, which saw Rock make a brief cameo appearance at the end of the show to stare down Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, teasing future showdowns with the current and former WWE Champion. While not officially announced, it is expected that The Rock will be in attendance for the debut episode of Raw on Netflix.
In a new interview, The Rock spoke about his recent in-ring return at WrestleMania 40.
