After more than 5 months away, a WWE veteran has expressed interest in returning for some unfinished business.
One-half of the Hardy Boyz, Matt Hardy, is making a buzz about wanting another shot at WWE gold. He recently talked about wanting to win more title belts in the company during a recent interview.
The Hardy Boyz defeated the NXT Tag Team Champion Nathan Frazer and Axiom, Fraxiom, back in March at NXT Roadblock. But the match was set for the Hardys’ TNA Tag Titles, so they never got the NXT gold after beating the champions.
During a FOX 9 Interview, Matt Hardy said,
I think too, man, when you talk about titles and us wanting to cement our legacy as one of the greatest tag teams of all time. I still think that, with this interesting partnership between TNA and WWE, I would love to see us mix it up and win some WWE Tag Team Titles again. There are new versions of WWE Tag Titles up on the main roster. There are those NXT Tag titles. A couple of months back, we beat the NXT Tag Team Champions, and we never got a deserved shot. Talk about it. Yeah, we were out there with FrAxiom, and we beat them. 123, in the middle. So we would love to have a shot at those NXT titles too.” (H/T: Fightful)
The Hardy Boyz want to win the new WWE Tag Team Championship designs that were introduced following their departure. He also mentioned wanting to win their first NXT Tag Title to expand the Hardy Boyz’ legacy.
The Hardy brothers have made it clear that they want to retire in WWE, and TNA is aware of their plans. So we might get one last title run for the tag team before they hand up their boots.
The Hardy Boyz Outside WWE
Matt and Jeff Hardy are currently signed to TNA Wrestling, where they are the current TNA World Tag Team Champions in their fourth reign.
The brothers returned to TNA in 2024 after spending time in AEW. They signed a new deal with TNA Wrestling in November 2024. The promotion has a working collaboration with WWE NXT that became official in January 2025, allowing talent to appear on both shows in a multi-year partnership.
The Hardy Boyz have been part of this crossover between the two companies. Matt and Jeff are wrestling legends who have won championships across multiple companies. They are the only tag team in history to hold WWE World Tag Team titles, WCW Tag Team titles, TNA World Tag Team titles, ROH World Tag Team titles, and both Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles.
Matt’s WWE contract ended in March 2020, and Jeff left the company in 2021. Both brothers then worked for AEW before returning to TNA in 2024.
The Hardy Boyz continue to wrestle regularly for TNA while also making appearances on NXT programming through the partnership deal. They remain active competitors at ages 50 and 47, respectively.
