A WWE legend once had to be attended to backstage after breaking a chair.
WWE star Kevin Owens is currently sidelined with an injury. However, the star has been with WWE for a while and has collected some hilarious stories. The star recently revealed how Big Show, 53, once broke his chair while laughing at a hilarious spot from Owens.
Speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens revealed the hilarious story of how the WWE legend once broke his chair because he saw the former executing a hilarious kick on former star Alex Riley. This led to him being attended to by backstage officials as he lay there laughing. This was after a match during NXT in the initial years of KO’s career, and the incident led to the real-life Paul Wight including Owens into his golden circle.
“I’m in NXT at the time and we’re having our first out of state show at the Arnold Classic. Huge deal for NXT. We had a TV taping, not a huge building but to make sure there were a lot of people there, they booked a main roster match. No offense to [Big] Show, probably the worst main roster match to book on the show. So the fans weren’t too kind to them, unfortunately, but they had a good match.
I was wrestling Alex Riley. He’s the babyface, nobody likes him. I put him away with the pop-up powerbomb, then Finn Balor comes out to stop me from attacking him some more. Finn puts me down and goes up top to hit me with the Coup de Grace. I roll out and run away and as I turn the corner ‘cause the way the ring is there’s a stage. But as I cut the corner Alex Riley happens to be on the ground selling. So as I pass I throw a kick at him. Show saw it, thought it was the funniest thing, burst out laughing and broke his chair.
I come back to him on the ground dying of laughter, everybody’s circled around trying to pick him up. Hunter comes back to tell me ‘The kick you threw at Riley was so funny, Show broke his chair.’ And Show told me right then and there, ‘You’re in forever. It was so good you’re in.’” [22: 20 – 25:30]
WWE star Kevin Owens is currently set for surgery in July
During the same episode of the podcast, Kevin Owens revealed that he is scheduled for surgery on his neck injury in July this year. He also revealed that his time away from the ring has been a bit frustrating and that despite not feeling any of the symptoms since suffering the injury, he is currently dealing with pain, as some of the symptoms have appeared over the last week.
“March 1 was my last match… so March, April, May, it’s been 4 months almost. We’re waiting until mid-July to do the surgery. Hopefully it’s a normal neck fusion, it might not be, we don’t know. So since then I’ve felt fine, my neck’s been fine, I’m not in pain, I have no… really any symptoms of what you would expect somebody with a spinal cord injury to have, but in the last week, for some reason, the symptoms all came in one shot. Every symptom you’d expect me to have… the pain in the neck, the stuff going down the arms, the legs not really responding. It’s all been happening, so it’s been pretty brutal,” Owens said.
It remains to be seen when Owens will return to WWE and what the future holds for him.
