A few days ago, Jim Ross shared an important update about his cancer diagnosis.
WWE Hall of Famer and AEW veteran Jim Ross was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2021 that required aggressive radiation and left him with a lingering wound even after being declared cancer-free. While he later declared in late 2024 that his wound was healing, he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Earlier this month, the Hall of Famer shared on social media that he was once again dealing with cancer in his colon and was also scheduled to undergo surgery later. Now, recently during an episode of Grilling JR, Ross opened up on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s heartwarming gesture ahead of his surgery.
The legendary commentator revealed that Austin had called up Jim Ross and spoke with him for nearly 43 minutes.
“I was sitting there in the hospital—no, but I was at home. I was at home, and I got a call from Steve Austin. And when we got off the phone, I looked at my phone and we’d talked for 43 minutes. Forty-three minutes. And here’s what your friends do: they call you, they talk to you, and at the end of the conversation, they tell you they love you. And that’s what Steve did.
So, that’s what I got. And that cheered me up and made me feel strong and vibrant. And he said, ‘You’re going to beat this and everything’s going to be just fine. Just ride it out. Tough it out.’ I said, ‘Oh, I’m going to—I’m going to, you know, I’m going to put my uniform on and go play and give the doctor and the nurses everything they want and hopefully they’re going to do a good job.’”
With his surgery lined up, Ross had also previously confirmed his presence for the upcoming All In PPV on 12th July, 2025.

When Does Jim Ross’ All Elite Wrestling Contract Expire?
After spending decades in WWE, Jim Ross signed with AEW as one of the original members of the promotion. Jim Ross confirmed in March 2024 that he had signed a new contract with the company and later revealed the date his new contract expires.
“Oh, yeah, I think so. My contract expires in August [2025]. But I don’t have any sense or feeling that I’m not gonna be kept. Because of the schedule I do, I could maintain that for years to come. I’m not saying that in a braggadocios fashion. This is what I do. This is what I was born to do. As long as my heart is beating and I’m healthy, and right now, I’m healthier than I’ve ever been. Once this wound heals, and it’s getting closer and closer, I’ll be 100%. I’m waiting for my hip to heal from hip surgery.”
We at ITR Wrestling wish Jim Ross well in his ongoing battle with cancer.
