WWE Is Keeping Brock Lesnar Away From Clash In Paris For A Big Reason

Brock Lesnar returns at WWE SummerSlam 2025

WWE is headed back to France for its inaugural Clash In Paris event, in what will be John Cena’s first and last PLE match in the country. The highly-anticipated Cena vs. Brock Lesnar match remains up in the air, but new details on why it’s not happening in Paris have just been revealed with an update on what the future holds.

Lesnar vs. Cena for the final time is a major piece of Big Match John’s Farewell Tour. Now it looks like the end of the legendary rivalry will also play a role in the ongoing so-called war between WWE and AEW. Sources revealed on Monday that the Stamford-based promotion is set to announce a premium live event for September, on the same day as AEW’s seventh annual All Out PPV from Toronto.

The unconfirmed reports of the WWE PLE, seemingly set for September 20, is rumored to be Bad Blood V, expected for the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sources noted that WWE has 2-3 major matches planned for the September PLE, which would be needed to counter the rumored in-ring reunion of hometown heroes Adam Copeland (fka Edge) and Christian Cage at All Out.

Brock Lesnar Kept Off WWE Clash In Paris For September PLE

WWE is rumored to announce counter-programming for AEW All Out in late September. Word from within the Stamford-based promotion indicates that this will not be an NXT PLE, which means World Wrestling Entertainment will be using its main roster to go up against All Elite Wrestling for the first time.

John Cena vs. Logan Paul was recently announced for Clash In Paris, and that came as a surprise to those who believed Cena’s next opponent would be Brock Lesnar. On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was noted by Dave Meltzer that Lesnar vs. Cena for the last time was not taking place in France because the bout was needed to counter AEW.

It can change, but the main event for this show is Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena. So, it’s a big one, which is why Brock’s not in Paris. They wanted him for this show, not the Paris show, and that’s where Logan Paul got the gig,” Dave Meltzer said.

Cena is believed to have some input into his farewell program. However, the 17-time World Champion dismissed a long-standing rumor about his backstage pull earlier this week.
