Though intergender wrestling is rare in WWE, one move between top Superstars elicited the “weirdest” reactions from the crowd!
In the wake of Becky Lynch winning the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships at WrestleMania 35, The Man teamed with her real life partner and Universal Champion Seth Rollins to take on the pair of Lacey Evans and Baron Corbin at Extreme Rules. The stakes were high as it was a winner takes all match, with the winning team taking both the Raw and Universal Championships.
In the end, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were victorious over their dastardly foes, but not before Baron Corbin hit his signature End of Days on Lynch during the match. This was a rare occurrence as intergender wrestling is generally frowned upon in WWE, and according to the now renamed Happy Corbin on Mornings with Matt and Bob, the crowd had a visceral reaction to the move.
“It was one of the weirdest reactions I’ve ever experienced… You could hear the anticipation when I was kind of standing behind her, but then when I hit it, it was like, a huge reaction of shock, right? Then it went really quiet when they realized what just happened. And then it was just like, guttural boos.”
Unfortunately for Rollins, later on in the night, Brock Lesnar would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to become the Universal Champion in just 16 seconds.
