WWE Interested In Top Free Agent

Another notable name could be on their way to WWE soon.

Over the past year, WWE has been very active in the free-agent market with notable signings including Penta, Ricky Saints, Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia. While it has been rumoured that former AEW star Rey Fenix is also set to join the company in the near future, there is another name who has competed on AEW TV in the past that could also become a part of the sports entertainment titan.

As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the company has had their eye on NJPW star Jeff Cobb recently. The report also includes a quote from Cobb following his loss to El Phantasmo at NJPW Road To The New Beginning, where Cobb hinted that he might be leaving New Japan soon as he was unable to pick up a major win. Cobb has picked up a few victories in his last few appearances while teaming with TJP and Callum Newman as part of United Empire.

During his time in NJPW, Cobb has won the IWGP Tag Team Championships twice with Great-O-Khan along with singular reigns as NEVER Openweight Champion and NJPW World Television Champion. Cobb was also an entrant in the 2024 G1 Climax Tournament but was knocked out in the group stages.

It is also added that sources in AEW did not expect Cobb to become All Elite.

The latest update came on April 14th, where it was announced that the NJPW star was leaving the promotion and his time as IWGP Tag Team Champion had come to an end.

Former WWE Star Talks Possible Return

While the company has signed a number of top free agents in recent months, there have been a number of notable releases from the promotion. However, as Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes have proven, there is always the possibility of a return if the wrestler can make a name for themselves elsewhere. In a recent interview, a former WWE Champion spoke about what it would take for a return to be possible.
