Following his surprise appearance at IMPACT Wrestling’s Hard To Kill event, former WWE star Santino Marella has been discussing what comes next.
Marella’s arrival came at the end of the bout between Joe Hendry and Moose. After the latter hit Hendry with a low blow to score the win and claim the Digital Media Championship, Marella intervened. He announced that he was the new Director of Authority and ordered the match to be restarted.
The former Intercontinental Champion was released by WWE in 2016 after an 11-year run with the company. However, his final two years were blighted by injury and the star hasn’t wrestled anything like a full-time schedule since 2014.
Ex-WWE Star To Wrestling In IMPACT
Despite this, Marella has suggested that he’s looking to wrestle alongside his new non-physical appearances in IMPACT.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Marella stated that he was looking for that “Jerry Lawler schedule” when it comes to in-ring action.
“Well actually, so, you know, the talk is I’ll try and wrestle maybe quarterly. Special matches, that Jerry Lawler schedule, wrestling a few matches a year. See what the body can do but mostly, funny backstage pre-tapes, some in-ring promos, all that kind of stuff. A lot of interactions with superstars and trying to make them laugh and try to pop them. It’s fun, it’s a lot of fun. The creative juices are flowing and a lot of the writers here, they’re looking forward to writing comedy that’s gonna be executed properly and there’s a really good energy here right now.”
Santino Marella is best known for his run in WWE where he captured the Intercontinental title on debut from Umaga in Italy after being picked out of the crowd to compete. The Milan Miracle spent almost a decade as part of the main roster only being released in 2016.
