WWE have confirmed that Hell In A Cell will be returning on June 5th.
It has been announced that Hell In A Cell 2022 will take place at the Allstate Arena on June 5th. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
The venue has hosted professional wrestling for a number of years, most recently holding Survivor Series 2019 and NXT TakeOver: Chicago, also in 2019. The arena is arguably most famous for hosting WrestleMania 13, which saw the legendary clash between Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
WWE Hell In A Cell came from the success of the match of the same name which first appeared in 1997. To date there have been 50 Hell in a Cell matches, the most recent coming in October 2021 at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, where Edge defeated Seth Rollins. The match was especially notable as Jessika Carr became the first woman to referee a match in the kingdom.
The Undertaker holds the record for the most Hell in a Cell match appearances with 14, while his eight wins are also a record. The active Superstar with the most appearances is Randy Orton, who has wrestled inside the structure eight times.
The WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view event has been held annually since 2009. The 2021 edition of the event was held inside the ThunderDome as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the last WWE pay-per-view to be held without fans.
On the show, Bianca Belair successfully defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley, while Bobby Lashley retained his WWE Title in the main event against Drew McIntyre.
