WWE Hall Of Famer’s Son Has Wrestling As His “Backup Plan”

Son of WWE Hall of Famer has described wrestling as a backup plan to his current profession.

In the past several years, multiple top WWE stars have successfully made the jump from football or other sports into professional wrestling. Some of the big names, such as Roman Reigns, Goldberg, and Bron Breakker, are live examples.

Speaking with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, son of WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg, discussed his plans to perform as a wrestler. 18-year-old Gage Goldberg commented that wrestling is a backup option to his current footballing career.

I mean, yes and no, for sure, because wrestling would be cool. Being amped up and everything, having all the adrenaline. But then also, like, I know my place right now is with football. So I’m going to live this out and see where that takes me. If it doesn’t work out, could be wrestling. Don’t know. It’s a backup plan.”

Terming it as a cool and “amped” sport, Goldberg believes his current place belongs in football. His father, Bill Goldberg, made a name for himself as a literal monster during his time in WCW, and later in WWE. With a career in football and an unmatchable physique, Goldberg quickly rose to the ranks of professional wrestling in the 1990s.

Goldberg Has Opened Up On His Final WWE Match

During his latest appearance on the CarCast podcast, Bill Goldberg opened up on his upcoming final WWE match. Having last wrestled three years ago, Goldberg is now reportedly set to retire in 2025.

I’ll have a long time to recover after this one, so I’m putting it all out there on the line. The fact is, I have a number of months to get ready for something that will take 15 minutes in the ring. The preparation is always much harder than the actual performance. At the end of the day, you try to do whatever you know and whatever is at your fingertips to prepare for whatever you’re about to embark on.

I don’t give a flying fart if I’m 57 or 58 years old. This time, I’m actually getting some prep time and the ability to get ready. Comparatively, even though I’m at the age that I’m at, I will have five times as much time to prepare than I have for any other match. If I can’t get ready in that period of time, with what I have to offer, then it’s not going to be enough. I do believe that I’ve set my standards quite high and at the end of the day, I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the outcome and my performance.”
