WWE Hall of Famer opens up on a nixed return plan.

Arguably one of the most popular stars on the roster during his peak, this Hall of Famer claims to be open for a return. A part of the Stamford-based promotion from the early 1990s, Charles Wright aka The Godfather has successfully played several gimmicks.

Out of all his successful characters, The Godfather remains one of the most iconic ones. A class of 2016 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Wright recently opened up on possibly returning to the promotion. During a recent appearance on the Poddin’ Ain’t Easy podcast, The Godfather shared his initial plan of returning before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although those plans unfortunately never materialized, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion has teased a future comeback.

When COVID hit, I agreed to come out to that [Andrè The Giant Memorial Battle Royal] and that was going to be — I was going to come out as Kama, get eliminated, then I was gonna come back as Godfather, get eliminated, and then I was gonna … I don’t even remember what, I know that the last thing was Papa Shango and the lights were gonna go out and everybody, whoever was left, [laughs in character], and COVID hit and they didn’t do it.

While the WrestleMania 36 appearance never took place, Wright believes his character could be more appropriate for the Netflix audience.

“It was hard because they’re so PG and, when they see me, the audience wants to yell, ‘Where’s the Hoes? You might see me down at … once they go on Netflix I wouldn’t be [surprised]. I mean, I’m still under contract. I’m still under contract with them so I’m sure you might see me pop up.”

Despite being 63 years old, Wright is still active in the Indies and performs under his various gimmicks.

WWE Hall Of Famer Is Proud Of This Announcer’s Progress

WWE Hall of Famer and AEW announcer Jim Ross recently opened up on Raw announcer Joe Tessitore’s current progress in the promotion. Tessitore, a famed ESPN broadcaster, has quickly adapted to his wrestling role and made Jim Ross proud. Speaking on his ‘Grilling JR‘ podcaster, the veteran shared:

I got questions about Joe Tessitore, who does a lot of football for ESPN. He’s built himself a nice business, hasn’t he? He’s making some serious money. Gotta be making some big money with ESPN and WWE, two great clients to have if you’re an announcer. He does a nice job. He does a better job than I thought he ever would this early, to be honest with you. So they made a good hire there. I didn’t know he was a wrestling fan.

You can’t be as successful as he’s been and as informative, timely, etc., without being a fan. He has some product knowledge, and I have great respect for that. So looks like they’re building their announcer base. It’s a good fit for them. Joe does a nice job, and I’m proud that he’s representing our trade as well as he is.”
