WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather has revealed that The Rock ended up refusing to travel with him back in the 1990’s.
Along with Faarooq, Mark Henry and D-Lo Brown among a host of others The Rock appeared in the Nation of Domination alongside Kama Mustafa (The Godfather) through much of 1997 and 1998. As was customary, all of the Superstars in the group travelled together away from the ring as they bounced from event to event. Not that these arrangements always worked out.
Speaking on the Such Good Shoot podcast, Godfather recalled a conversation with The Rock, where the soon to be Great One told him that he could no longer travel with him. Godfather, real name Charles Wright, was and is a strong proponent for marijuana, which resulted in him smoking during the long car rides between events.
As the The Rock was sharing the car with Wright this led to him constantly smelling of marijuana, despite his insistence that he didn’t. Eventually the People’s Champion told Godfather he could no longer travel with him.
“One day Rocky came to me and said, ‘Hey, Papa, I can’t ride with you no more,’” The Godfather said. “I’m like, ‘What do you mean you can’t ride with me no f***ing more?’ He goes, ‘Bruh, everywhere I go I smell like weed and I’m telling people I don’t smell like weed. And then the next time they see me, they say every time I see you you say you don’t smell like weed, but you smell like weed!’”
Godfather explained that rather than stop smoking he began travelling with Faarooq and Bradshaw, while The Rock jumped in with D-Lo Brown and Mark Henry.
“As soon as I got in the car, bro, as soon as I got in the f***ing car, I’m firing up [smoking] all the way to the building, you know,” The Godfather added. “And so, bro, I’m not gonna stop smoking, so that’s when I started riding with Ron [Simmons] and John [Bradshaw Layfield], The Acolytes, and then him [The Rock], D’Lo and Mark Henry started riding together.”
During an interview earlier this year Godfather revealed that he once told The Rock to “get the f**k out” of the famous group. The Hall of Famer explained that The Rock was initially reluctant to dress in a similar way to the rest of the faction, so he gave the young star an ultimatum.
