Booker T has praised former rival John Cena for making it to the top of the industry even though he was not the best worker bell to bell.
Bringing his 20-plus-year career inside the squared circle to a close at the end of the year, Cena will go down as one of the most successful WWE stars in company history. With 16 World Championship reigns among a long list of accolades, few will come close to what the Hollywood star accomplished in the professional wrestling world.
However, despite Cena’s many accolades, his in-ring style has often become the subject of criticism. With the “5 moves of doom” and his STF submission becoming a point of contention with many fans, the 16-time World Champion was unlikely to win many match of the year awards when the year came to a close. Despite this, Cena was still able to play to his strengths as find huge success in the industry.
Speaking about Cena’s legacy while being interviewed by TMZ Sports, Booker T responded that the Hollywood star noted that while he was not the best in-ring worker, he was able to play to his strengths:
“The man who took what he had and made the best out of it and took it all the way to the top. Wasn’t the best wrestler in the world or anything like that. I always talk about that as far as John Cena goes. It’s not out of disrespect or anything like that. But John Cena, he knew how to go out and do it. I always talk to my students, ‘There’s no wrong way of doing it, as long as you do it right.’ That’s John Cena.”
When asked about who the final opponent should be, the Hall of Famer admitted that while he didn’t have an answer, he just hoped that Cena remained healthy:
“I don’t know. That’s going to be for the fans to actually decide who they want to see, and hopefully he has enough gas left in the tank to actually get it done”
Current Champion Warns John Cena
