WWE legend Mick Foley has commented on his current quality of life after decades of punishment throughout his professional wrestling career.
No stranger to putting his body and well-being on the line to entertain the fans, Foley has been thrown off the top of Hell in a Cell, regularly performed dives onto concrete floors and has competed in exploding barbed wire deathmatches, very much living up to his Hardcore Legend moniker.
While many of Foley’s bumps are hard to watch given the increased knowledge of concussion and associated head injuries, one of the most uncomfortable matches of the Hall of Famer’s career took place at the 1999 Royal Rumble. Facing off against The Rock in an “I Quit” match, Foley was hit with 11 unprotected chair shots to the head by the future Hollywood star.
While speaking with Jamal Niaz while at For The Love of Wrestling, Foley was asked about the match and if there were any reservations from Rock about going through with the brutal series of strikes:
“He was tentative to do it. But when that camera is on, he’s a professional and he made it work.”
When asked about how he would compare the chair shots to his previous injuries, the former World Champion noted that while the 1999 match was a bad one before elaborating on his current health:
“That was a bad night and I could have been seriously hurt, so I certainly hope no one tries anything remotely like that. I was hurting. I mean, cumulatively you just can’t take a lot of shots like that. So I have to be really careful in my everyday life. I don’t get jolted, I can’t ride rollercoasters anymore, I have an aversion to bright lights. But all things considered, I think I’m doing pretty well.”
Mick Foley Pitches Unique Match
In 2024, Foley announced that he was intending to get back in the ring one more time to celebrate his 60th birthday. However, due to health reasons at that point, Foley stated that the match was off. In January 2025, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he had lost 100 pounds and was in much better health, but there would still not be a final match. Although a final match looks to be off the cards, Foley was asked about dream opponents in the same interview, to which the WWE legend pitched a match against Rhea Ripley.
